Kenmore 70 series Agitation and Spin Cycyle clicking

Yours is a 2 speed motor. Does it spin in 2 different speeds. If so, then it most likely is designed with only to agitate in 1 speed. If it only spins in one speed, then your motor is defective

go to www.searspartsdirect.com put in you model number and you can pull up a explode view of the transmission.

sounds like a transmition problem. does the noise happen when it goes into spin on the other settings? If no noise in the spin cycle on the other setting, then it sounds like a the gears in the transmition internally when bad for the agitation.

Hello. Since your machine is 18 years old and the agitation/spin is costly to repair I would definitely recommend a replacement washer.

if you hold onto the top of the agitator stopping it from turning, and turn the "blades" at the bottom, does it make a ratcheting, clicky sound when you turn them opposite direction from each other

It sounds like one of two things 1,A worn clutch .or 2.motor coupler is about gone,

check to see if the tub has any side to side play to start then pull the motor and check the coupling the clicking is whats confusing

On kenmore, which is made by whirlpool, there is a couple of coils attached to a bracket this is called a wig-wag.
they are located underneath the tub. when these coils engage they move a couple of bars, thus selecting agitate, spin, ect. It sounds like one of the coils is not working. Check them for power and continuity, and then go from there.

i have a kenmore 70 series washer model 10020722990
it will fill with water but will not wash. if you put it on spin the water will drain but it will not spin. it sounds like the motor turning. is it a clutch that has broken.
