Bath tube plumbing is making vibrating sound then shutting off

The bath tube has a facet / handle shower unit mounted together. One must sit in the tub and take the hand held unit to shower. The problem is that a week ago the water would shut off soon after coming on. I would switch the water to run from the facet then back to the hand held shower unit. It seem to work. Two days ago it shut off completely. Today I turned on the water and it began to flow at low volume rate. When I increased the volume it began making a vibrating sound and the water stopped flowing. I removed the shower unit thinking that there was air in the line causing the impass. It did not work. I have turned on all of the up-stairs facets at the same time thinking that if there was air in the line it would pass. All other facets operated properly but the bathroom tub facet.

Replace the cartridge even if its new. The vibrating is from the internal workings of the stem. It also effects the volume of water.

good luck, Phil

Flip over bathroom plug in bath stuck & bath full :/

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you
  1. Remove the shower head from the pipe.
  2. Clean the arm threads and wrap them with plumbers' joint tape.
  3. Screw the head back on and hand-tighten it. Remove any excess compound or tape.
  4. Test and retighten as needed.
Repair a shower head that leaks at the swivel:
  1. Unscrew the shower-head body from the swivel-ball ring.
  2. Find the O-ring or a similar seal inside. Replace it and screw the shower head back into place.
  3. Turn off the water supply and open the faucet handle to relieve water pressure.
  4. Carefully loosen the coupling nuts at the shutoff valves and at the base of the faucet.
  5. Carefully remove the supply tubes.
  6. Remove the locknuts that hold the faucet to the sink and lift the faucet out.
  7. Clean the area where the old faucet sat.
  8. As needed, install the new spray hose and supply tubes, if any, through their holes in the sink.
  9. Set the rubber gasket that came with the faucet on the sink where it will be mounted. If no gasket is supplied, apply plumber's putty.
  10. Set the faucet into position and center it.
  11. From under the sink, attach the faucet locknuts to hold it to the sink.
  12. Reinstall the supply lines, then turn them on and test the faucet. Turn it on carefully because the line and faucet have air in them.

How to repair a washer-type bath & shower faucet

  • To take apart a bath/shower faucet for repair, first turn off the water. Then take the faucet apart by removing its handle, escutcheon and packing nut. The packing nut may be buried deeply in the wall, requiring a socket wrench for removal.

  • Your bath and shower faucets may have a renewable seat that can be smoothed with a seat-dressing tool or removed and replaced using a seat wrench. For replacing and repacking the washer, follow the same instructions provided for a washer-type faucet. Some faucets may need a complete replacement of the combination stem/seat unit.

Installed bath 3 handle unit. hot handle is stiff and hard to turn, shower diverter is loose. How can I loosen the one and tighten the other? I'm sure it's probably the same adjustment

The handle adapters can be tightened by turning them clockwise and loosened by turning them counterclockwise. If the faucet manifold may need to be lined up parallel behind the wall and moved forward as well. Here is the parts breakdown for your faucet,

How to adjust anti scald valve on american standard shower faucet

Remove the handle, and all the trim rings, and the cartridge cover. take a flat head screwdriver and use it to lift
up the red ring behind everything, this is the hot limit safety stop,
this just stops the handle from turning to full hot.

Once you have the red ring lifted up, notice the numbers and the pointer
on the ring, numbers are on the fixture,

O= hottest 7=cold

See what the ring pointer is set to now, and move it half, before you put this back together, just set the handle on the unit and run the water to see if its to hot or not enough. Once you have found what is the best setting, then replace all covers and trim, handle.

No cold water coming out of bath/shower, only really hot water

Is it a Delta brand, single handle valve? If so, chances are you need a new "stem" and can be purchased at any plumbing suply store or home store. You will need to shut the water off to the house to do this (unless you are certain you know where the shutoffs are). Good luck
