My foot pedal keeps hitting the front tire on my mongoose sycamore bike

It seems to me and my bike friends that the front tire is too close to the pedals. Anytime I turn depending on where my foot pedal lands, my foot hits the front tire and I come to an abrupt stop which sometimes I have fallen.

Here's another thought. It is possible that the bike is assembled wrong and that the front fork is on backwards. To correct this you would have to remove the brakes from where they are attached to the fork, and loosen the handlebar stem. Turn the fork around 180 degrees (keeping the handlebars in the correct position). Then tighten the handlbars and replace the brakes on the front side of the fork.

By the way, you'll also never catch your toe on the ground (which can cause a very painful mishap) if you pedal with the ball of your foot.

some bikes are like that. The rear wheel only spins with the pedals. Try pedaling backwards and see if the wheel goes back. If it does then that is normal.

How do I avoid hitting the front tire with my foot? The distance doesn't seem big enough.

Unlike stirrups on a horse saddle, where you would hook your heel up against it, pedalling is best done with the ball of your foot. This allows you to use your entire leg including your ankle to provide the power. This might seem a bit uncomfortable at first, but you will get used to it very quickly, since it will tire you less and is more like the natural motion of walking. Placing your foot too far forward on the pedal makes pedalling more like walking on your heels.

I have an otero mongoose bike how do i take the front tire off

The front wheel is removed by releasing the quick release located at the bottom of the fork. The tire can be removed by deflating the tire and then levering off the tire itself using a set of special removal tools.

The pedal hits the tire whilst turning. We just got the bikes and put them together but when you ride and try to turn, the pedal hits the front tire and causes the bike to stop abruptly.

The pedal should not be able to reach the front tire. Sometimes one gets their toes to overlap the front wheel on a racing bike but that's because they have intentionally short wheel base and a steep for angle. Which way is the fork on your bike pointing? It should be angled or curved forward.

Look at the bike icon on this posting for an example.
