I had a 1996 42" MTD riding mower with grass catcher on the back. I used to get about 3 buckets of grass clippings per mow and could not see grass clippings coming out from under the deck. Now I have a 2002 42" MTD riding mower that moved the grass catcher to. Now I am only getting about the clippings per mow and I can see grass clipping spraying out from under the non-catcher tube side of the deck. I have new blades with the proper side towards grass and the pick up tube is clear with no obstructions. The underside of the deck has no appreciable build up of grass either. Any ideas what my problem could be?
There are a couple of causes for this. Is the blade height the same on the new mower? Higher blade height could cause a lot of the grass to be blown out from under the deck, and not into the catcher chute.
On the trailing edge of the mower blades is a small 'wing' for lack of a better term. There are two types of blades, mulching blades that have a lower 'wing', while catcher blades that have a slightly higher 'wing' but it makes a difference.
If the season has been hot lately, the grass may not be growing as fast, hence less clippings, and less dense grass could also cause this.

When using a bagger, you need correct blades on mower or Worn blades will cause the deck not to get the vacuum needed for the bagger to pickup.

a lot of problems here.try this.[grass buildup]. usually cause by damp grass or blades not going fast enough to throw into box.engine cutout is then caused by grass jamming blade[s]. backfire is usually too much choke or wrong petrol/air mixture.re bent grass.try cutting driving in reverse[if strip is wide cos of back tyre then blade is uneven.]

when you put the new blades on did you notice if they were even with each other? the 42" decks have a tendency to "warp" inward on the left side. this causes the left blade to ride at an angle to the right blade - there is a tool to correct this, but not all shops have it - sometimes you can remove the deck, flip it over and wallop the inside edge of the left mandrel until the blades are even - a 2 lb. sledge works well for this

the only way to fix it is fit the right blades
they have fitted the wrong blade's to it,,,
the blades should overlap when cutting the grass they cannot crash into each other as there are (timed up) not to do that the new blades they fitted are to short so you have no over lap on the gutters that leaves a strip of grass left uncut between the blades,,
call them out to put this stupid mistake right,,,
