the LCD screen has a light source (like a monitor). It can be an lamp (like a projector TV), a mercury tube (like a monitor) or a LED-based lamp (so-called LED TVs have that, not to be mistaken for OLED TVs, where each pixel is a LED). I don't believe this model is an OLED. It could be one of the others, most likely a mercury lamp that lays at one side of the monitor and illuminates the screen.
You could shile a flashlight to the screen (from close distance) while the TV is powered on and see if any image is being formed on the LCD. If it does, the lamp is burned out and needs replacing. If no ghostly image is seen, then it could be the video processor and then it's a bigger problem.
Since the picture died slowly i suspect a capacitor on the powersupply board,if the screen flashes then goes black and sound is ok
could be the inverter board that drives the lamps.
LG Zenith recommends replacing the Y-sustain, x-sustain and digital /logic board as a set. After you replace you will need to check the voltages listed on your panel. The cost if bought from second hand dealer like shopjimmy.com will be around 250-300 for the parts.

Soft dry cloth wipe frequently on LCD screen is the only way. Slightly damp cloth maybe use at your own risk of leaking water into the lcd screen and damge the tin oxide(turn black).
Ur LCD inverter backlight board have problems,just not dead yet.When ur LCD inverter backlight board is dead.U will get only sound and no picture at all.
Most likely what happened is one of the capacitors went bad. When a capacitors goes bad it produces a popping sound. This could be an easy and cheap fix if you find the bad capacitor or capacitors. The bad capacitor will have a bulging top most likely on the power board but could be anywhere.
