Have an Aeg oko 4020 dishwasher. Installed a new pump and it worked for awhile. It now won't switch off but the cycles do not run. Someone suggested there maybe water in some area that has caused some sort of safety mechanism that has kicked in - do i need to drain something?

It probably has water in the bottom tray
take bottom front panel off and this exposes the bottom tray
mop out water and machine will run
if fault reoccure then you have a leak

The hose could be clogged or an issue with the valve assembly.Or something being stuck in the inlet water valve. Check to see if there is any problems coming from where the water enters into the tub for your dishwasher mostly on the left side wall of the tub on your dishwasher.
It should first be checked for correct water inlet hose with safety valve. After connecting the double-walled water inlet hose, the safety valve is next to the tap. Therefore the water inlet hose is only under pressure while the water is running. If the water inlet hose starts to leak during this operation, the safety valve cuts off the running water and the draining pump in the dishwasher is switched on. If the inlet hose with safety valve working correctly than could be some of following faulties.
The door of the dishwasher is not closed properly.
Mains plug is not plugged in.
House fuse in defective.
In the case of dishwasher models with start delay
timer: A start delay is selected.
If you look at the lower electrical diagram then you can see that all electrical components are located in a circuit inlet valve which can be also faulty.
This is typical of a water leak onto electrical connection OR the electrical element has shorted internaly . Check this with a Ohm meter and itshould show the problem
