LG 42LS3400 CC option is greyed out and I cannot turn off close captions! Help!

I was trying out the option for closed caption and now that they are turned on....they CC icon on the settings screen is greyed out. Even though I can see it, I cannot change it to CC Off mode. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Anonymous Jun 06, 2012

I emailed LG tech support and they said if the closed caption option is "greyed out" then it was my cable remote over riding my tv options. I wound up calling the cable company and they explained that I had to turn off closed captions on the cable box settings. It worked! Now I can turn CC on and of as needed. The cable company tech support also told me that pressing the A button on the cable remote would turn CC on or off also. That worked.

No, I found out by another person from the LG tech support line that the cable box was over riding the settings on the tv. I had to go to the settings on the cable box and turn it off. The CC option was not accessible through the tv remote. That is why it was "greyed out" and not lit up like the other options. The problem is solved and I hope others read my solution so that they can fix their "greyed out" CC option problem. I'm sorry bonifacio gomez. Your solution suggestion was what I had been trying for 4 hours. It did NOT work. Thanks anyway.

Above pretty much says it. The "Caption" function under "Option" is greyed out. Can someone tell me how to "ungrey/activate the closed caption option?

If the closed caption is shaded out in the menu, this usually means closed caption is not an option. Closed caption can not be turned on if the TV is on component, RGB, DVI, Or HDMI inputs. The closed caption will need to be turned on by using the set-top box or other device that is connected to TV inputs. or if the tv is connected directly to the cable line or anteanna

Need to know how to put the tv on close caption

Captioned programs are marked in TV listings by "CC". so press the cc button on the remote and the closed caption option will be applied.press that cc button again to turn off the closed caption option.
1) Check the size and manufactured year of your television. If it was made after 1993 and is larger than 13 inches, it has a closed captioning system built into it. Otherwise, you may need to purchase a separate closed caption system, which are available at a number of online outlets.
  1. 2)Turn on your TV and access the menu for closed captioning. The precise location of the menu varies by television set. Most are accessible by pressing the "Audio" or "Set Up" menu on your remote, then scrolling down to the "CC" or "Closed Captioning" option. Check your owner's manual for precise instructions.
  2. 3)Turn the closed captioning option to the "On" position. It will then run closed captions for every program that broadcasts them. Newer sets may allow you to adjust the size, font and colors of the closed captioning letters to fit your individual tastes.
  3. 4)Tune to a particular program for a few minutes to make sure the closed captions are working. Note that while many broadcasts run closed captioning, not all of them do. If the captions don't appear, check your TV listing to ensure the program includes them.
  4. 5)If you're watching a DVd on your TV, access the DVD's "Set Up" menu. It should have captioned options, which allow you to show captions in English and possibly other languages as well.
  5. thanks.

I need to activate CC for my Dad, Please help I have to go to work. I have a flat screen SOYO

Determine if closed captioning is available on the program that you've selected. In your program guide, the letters "CC" should appear at the end of the description.
Locate the closed captioning option on your remote. Some remotes have a "CC" button that you simply need to push to activate closed captioning
Locate the closed captioning option in your television's menu if there is no "CC" button on your remote. To do this, push the "menu" button on the remote control. The closed captioning option will probably be in the same section as the language function.
Set the closed captioning option to "on." Within several seconds, you should see the text appear on your screen.
To use closed captioning for DVDs, look for the "CC" label on the lower back section of the DVD case where it lists audio information. Turn on your TV's closed captioning and you should see the captioning like you do on a television program. Alternately, some DVDs include English subtitles that you can turn on in the setup/language menu of the DVD.
Thank you.

Closed captions will not disappear

Some TV will not display close caption in HD mode. This is why its Grey out in HD mode. If you switch to regular input, i can bet you your close caption will not be Grey out. The problem you are having is your cable box has close caption enable. You must go into the cable box menu and turn caption off. In some box you may have to call your cable provide for assistant.
