The only way to bypass this switch is fist pill the plug, gain access to the switch from under the hood. put a jumper wire on the 2 wires on the switch. that will do it. I hope this helps you out.

My washer, admiral mod atw4675yq1, has four wires to the lid interlock, red-white-blue-yellow. If I jump the middle two it will fill and die. What do I have to jump to allow it to spin?

Never ever bypass lid switch. Legal liability forever. Any future owner of machine has 2 years from the day they discover bypass to sue the crud out of you for injuries. Not worth it for cheap lid switch. Do it right. If you discover bypassed lid switch on customers machine, fix it or leave machine inoperable.

I disagree! Lid interlock is designed for idiots. If you are an adult, and know enough to keep your hand out when spinning, it's not a big deal.

Furthermore, if you occasionally load the washer slightly out of balance, the lid lock makes it a royal pain to adjust the load. I do recommend unplugging the unit while making adjustments.

What if you are a child that does not know to keep hand out of spinning basket? What if you are a grandma that assumed the technician would not leave the machine in a state that would tear off their granddaughter's arm? What if grandma died, and a new family bought her bypassed machine at estate sale? Lid locks were introduced for a reason, and I doubt it was because adults shoved their arms into spinning machine. Ron, you are 100% liable for any future injury on any machine you bypass. That's a fact.

I see both your points. In my case though I'm not a repair man; rather, I am the owner. When I get rid of the thing, it will be to the junk yard. That was almost today. Now I find out that these things have "shocks" in them (I was shocked), so for the last six months I have been pausing the cycle every time the thing spun and got sick of the dance one had to do to get access to the bin. I simply removed the latch from the lid and stuck it in the hole (yes, an overt solution). Now knowing that I can fix the machine with <$50 OEM parts, I will likely put it back. There is a 10 cent work around (being an engineer and all), but #perrywilliam is correct. A covert bypass of a safety feature is never the right thing to do. Peace.

In an effort to bypass the lid switch I pulled off the lid switch off and took the plastic locking mechanizum out of the lid switch. When I tried the washer with it out it wouldn't work. So I put

THe lid switch is a safety switch that is put in to keep the operator from getting an electric shock or ones hand caught in the machine if you leave the lid open and try to run it. If you ran the machine without it in there was electric power in the wires that were connected to the switch. If the power from that circuit hit a ground point, you blew something out! Check for blown fuses in the main panel, or you "fried" the main circuit board..replace it!

Washer fills but will not spin and shuts off after a few seconds

Hi

First make sure that nothing is blocking the drain pump assembly located inside the bottom of the unit, after this test the lid switch assembly, you jump it to test it. If the lid switch is also fine then the control board should be replaced. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Washer filled with water but now just makes a humming noise on all cycles. Help!

check these: Lid switch Motor coupler Belts Clutch Drive motor Drive Before testing the lid switch, unplug the washer or shut off the power at the fuse box or breaker panel to avoid an electrical shock hazard.

lidswitch1.jpg Aside from electrical problems, the switch may suffer from a mechanical problem. The lid may have a striker which depresses the switch when the lid is closed. Make sure the striker is functioning and aligned with the hole over the switch. Inspect the switch and make sure the metal strip is not bent out of position (if present). If your switch uses a mercury switch, make sure the mercury envelops the internal contacts when it is in the closed lid position. Your design may differ, so inspect it for proper operation before proceeding to the electrical testing.
There are two primary types of lid switches. One type on which you can directly test the terminals on the switch and another style where you have to test it at the wiring harness. In either case the method for testing the switch is the same. If a wiring harness is used, separate the two pieces of the harness and test the side of the harness that connects to the switch.

Admiral washer wont spin or drain

Possible lid switch problem, can be shorted out to prove, open the top complete lid for access. To do this insert a flat blade 4" from each side at the front panel between the front panel and lid to release the clips, lid will now lift and switch is on the underside of the lid RH side, short wires and test spin, replace switch if machine runs, do not leave machine with switch shorted and ensure supply is isolated as necessary.

Washer not agitating,it doesdrain but does not agitate

Hello

You need to check and test the lid switch, The lid switch ensures that the lid is closed before enabling the machine to spin or agitate. This feature was added after serious injuries resulted from people reaching into an operating washing machine. For this reason, the lid switch should never be bypassed.
Test the switch for continuity using a multitester. Set the multitester to the ohms setting X1. Place a probe on each terminal. The multitester should display a reading of infinity. Depress the button on the lid switch and the reading should change from a reading of infinity to roughly zero. If it does not pass both of these tests, the switch should be replaced.

Inspect the motor coupler,
Inspect the driver belt (belt drive only)
Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)
Test the motor
Inspect the pulley
Test the transmission
Inspect the agitator
Inspect the pump coupling
Test the water level switch

Sounds like a bad lid switch. Test my solution test by bypassing the lid switch. If the machine spins after bypassing the lid switch, replace the switch. Remember, this is a safety switch and needs to be on the machine.

  4. Check that the water supply valves are turned on
  5. Inspect the filter screens
