If you are planning to replace the shaft;
if your able to loosen the 2 square headed bolts( which must be done to allow for shaft movement) do so, then after bearings and pulley are off emerycloth (smooth no burrs or rust) the shafts 2 ends and get grinder and cut thru the shaft on the inside of squirrel cage area as close to the edge of cage as possible drive the shortened pieces of the shaft inward( oil this pieces to help ease movement thru blower wheel) until they are removed replace shaft with new shaft and re-install parts and or replace as needed bearings and blower wheel. I am getting ready to do this very job myself ( take measurements of shaft on each side to ensure your back where you started when done)

Sand the shaft to where it is shiny metal from hub to the shaft end. File off any burrs off the shaft. Use penetrating oil such as liquid wrench, knock 'er loose. Put the unsanded end of the shaft in a long tube or pipe up to the fan's hub. Now it's time to break the shaft and fan hub journals free. Any burr or shaft disfiguration must be filed off or the shaft will become stuck on the hub. Striking, jolting force, hammer the shaft or pipe/tube by use of wood protecting from direct blows as to push/drive the shaft thru the hub. Once it breaks free, remove burrs and keep wet with penetrating oil. Do not bend the fan hub disk to squirrel cage. Keep things plumb and straight and deburr to keep shaft-hub from sticking/hanging up.
Some units too far gone with rust will not budge and stay frozen together, will get destroyed if not meant to be. Carefully, shinny clean, square plumb driven under well lubricated condition, demurred, will have better luck in coming apart.

SOURCE: Do not know how to work/maintain swamp cooler

Make sure you have water to the unit, the water pump is on and the fan is working. No water=no cooling.

SOURCE: i need to replace the fan (squirrel cage) on a Mastercool 6500 series but dont know how to remove it. can someone tell me how?

Hello
Looking at a image of this unit. You will need to remove the top cover of the shell of the unit.Usually 1/4 sheet metal screws.
Once the top cover is off you need to unbolt the housing the fan sits in and remve it all as on peice. Then you can get the fan out of the shroud it sits in.
I dont understand why you want too remove the fan.Usually the bearings and shaft the fan rides on can be replaced without removing the fan.Unless something damaged the balance of the fan.

How will I know if my pump to my swamp cooler is working

There is a "pump only" setting on most, you should hear it running. If it's bound up, you might hear a buzz. Opening it up is the best way to be sure. Before a new season I clean out the sump and lube the pump and squirrel cage fan.

Changing squirrel cage GE window a/c

yes, most smaller window units have both outdoor and indoor cages connected to a single motor in the middle of the 2 blower wheels and are completely seperate from the compressor and it associated parts

How do you get the squirrel cage off the motor shaft. I bought a replacement motor but it looks like I have to destroy the press fit retaining washer and or the plastic squirrel cage to get the assembly...

I have done this before and it is hard. (big time)One time I just got annoyed and bent the washer and got a replacement one at the hardware store. Sometimes the nut will come off if you pull it gently while "unscrewing" it Try a little WD40 on the shaft to help the squirrel cage off. also prying up gently helps. Good luck.

How to remove squirrel cage from motor shaft?

depends on motor most have an allen wrench hole in the side locking the cage to the shaft depending on the size of the cage will determine the size of the allen wrench. You will want to use a green scuff pad to clean the shaft before you remove the squirrel cage and spray WD 40 on it to get it to slide off and on. When installing it be sure to get it back in the same place or you may cause it to rub on something which is a pain to tear it down a second time.

How do I clean a Hawaiian Breeze tower fan?

Unplug fan. Lay the fan face down. Remove the four screws holding the stand to the base. Slide the stand all the way off the cord. Look at bottom of fan and find the small half circle indent just to left of center. There is a screw there, remove it. Go to the hand grip at the top of the back and pry out the two white rubber plugs to reveal two more screws, remove them. Back cover can now slide downward. May take a little squeezing at the center of the grille where internal clip is. Remove two screws at top of squirrel cage. Turn squirrel cage and loosen screw at bottom collar on motor shaft. Tilt the top of the squirrel cage outward slightly and slide upward to remove the squirrel cage. You can slip upper metal bracket off and set aside. Motor is held in by two screws, remove them and flip motor out of the way. There are two screws below where motor sat that hold in base of front grille, remove. Front grille has a series of clips along edges, carefully pry them inward from bottom to top and push grille gently outwards. You can now clean the rear grille, front grille and squirrel cage in warm soapy water and allow to dry. While they are drying, use a vacuum and dust rags to clean interior. When parts are dry, reinstall front grille and reinstall 2 screws. Reinstall motor with two screws. Turn motor shaft so flat notch is pointing up. Recommend to spray a tiny bit of WD-40 or a tiny dab of moly grease on shaft at top of squirrel cage, then replace upper bearing bracket on top shaft. Slide collar end of squirrel cage onto motor shaft and align screw with shaft flat and tighten. Reinstall two screws at bracket at top of squirrel cage. Align back cover just a bit toward bottom, then slide upward and clips will snap into place. Reinstall two screws in hand hold area, then reinstall screw at bottom of cover at half circle notch. You'll need either a magnetic tip screwdriver or a pair of long needle-nosed pliers to get screw in hole before tightening. Feed cord back through base and reinstall 4 screws. It took me about half an hour to do this whole process on each of my two Hawaiian Breeze fans, but they now look brand new and run very quiet.

I want to clean the squirl cage fan on my Carrier handler. It's 12 years old and never really been cleaned. What is the best cleaning procedure to maximize its efficiency.

The best way to really clean the squirrel cage is to remove the entire indoor blower motor housing assembly out of the furnace then remove the squirrel cage from the motor shaft and pressure wash the squirrel cage. Make sure you don't use to much water pressure as you might knock off any balancing weights that may be attached to the one or more of the vanes. Make sure the cage is completely dry before you re-install it back on the motor shaft.

The squirl cage on the dryer of my model LSE7806

Howdy,

Absolutely should be positively "locked" to the motor shaft. There should be a set screw in the collar of the squirrel cage mount. Either it is missing of has loosened. Please tighten (or replace) this set screw. Also, it is very IMPORTANT to make sure that if there is a flat machined surface on the motor shaft, that you align the squirrel cage (and set screw) so that the set screw will seat firmly and squarely against this flat surface. This design ensures that once properly aligned and set, that the squirrel cage will follow the motor shaft faithfully. Also, it is recommmended to apply some thread sealant (Locktite) to the threads of the set screw so this will not happen in the future. Vibration can be the cause of this.

Good luck,

J

Running not blowing air

sounds as if fan isnt attached to motor shaft. There is a set screw on the fan cage that if it loosens the shaft will turn inside of the fan not turning the fan( also known as a squirrel cage) You need to get access to the fan motor and see first if its shaft is rotating, if it is see if the squirrel cage is turning if not the set screw located on the inner collar of the squirrel cage needs to be tightened. Thie set screw is more than likly an allen set screw.

Mod ASU24C1

If the blower is made of plastic it does not have a set screw. You most likely need a new squirrel cage. They are formed to the shaft and have a compression ring that holds them in place.
