If it is grease that is in the tub then the trans is shot. Thats the only part that would result in this. Very pricy part but if you want to order it go to marcone.com with your model number and you can get the parts. I would not recommend fixing this, costs almost as much as new unit.

SOURCE: Hi We Have a ge front load washer and dryer and

Front load washing machines develop a musty smell over time for several different reasons. Mostly due to using to much soap or the wrong type of soap. Since FL washers use much less water than traditional top loaders, regular soap with all the fillers and high sudzing agent within can not be rinsed out of your cloths or washer. The smell is caused by bacteria feeding off the soap scum residue left behind. Be sure you are using a HE detergent as is recommended by the manufacture.
Run and empty load with 1 cup of bleach placed in your soap dispensor and hot water to clean your washer. If the problem persists try "Washer Fresh" a cleaning agent specially made to take care of this problem.
After smell is gone repeat once a month to prevent reoccurace of problem

SOURCE: GE WASHER SPIN OUT PROBLEMS

Sounds like the suspension for the drum is having problems - there are usually springs holding the drum up and acting as shocks - one of the springs may have come off during an unbalanced load.

there is a filter under the washer door behind the panel...its white just unscrew it and clean out the filter and that should solve your problem.

Residue left on clothes from no agitator top load GE washer

Do you use liquid laundry detergent & liquid fabric softener? If you do then this could be the source of the residue that is getting on your clothes. Over a period of time the gummy residue from liquids will accumulate between the tubs. You can clean out the washer with a product called Washer Magic or the unit will need to be disassembled & cleaned thoroughly by hand. Do not let raw liquid detergent or fabric softener come into contact with your clothes.
Also, here is a link to the agitator cap if you should need it.

I have a GE Clothes Washer WBSR3140G2ww when the washer machine starts it agitation there is a loud scraping sound to the left side of the machine. What are the possible problems associated with this...

I have the exact same unit in a 2nd home we just purchased and when the repair guy came, he said "it was in perfect working condition". Mine also has next to no agitation, I think a goldfish swimming around in a bowl makes more motion. I absolutely hate this washer and will replace it asap.

Leaving black residue (spots) on clothing

Black spots usually come from the agitator shaft bearing seal which will, when worn, allow oil from the transmission to seep into the wash. Replace the seal, and maybe the upper bearing if the shaft itself will move visibly from side to side in various directions. If the machine is still under warranty, take advantage. Hope this helps!

Spins really loud louder than it use to and leaves the clothes with a brown residue but seems to perform normally.thought maybe had a bearing going out but that doesnt explain the residue on the clothes.

the rear main berring is rusted out. its putting rust mud in the washer as well as leaking out back. Its a major repair.berring is part or rear tub. Better off buying a new washer.

Hi We Have a ge front load washer and dryer and it seems that our clothes smell musty at times. I've tried leaving the door open on the washer when not in use. Could there be another prooblem??

Try using vinegar, baking soda, or bleach in an empty load to counteract any residues left in onboard water. Also check for debris stuck in door baffle(rubber sleeve between door and tub).

Maytag Atlantis black oil like residue and can't remove agitator

Hello
Welcome to fixya.
I'm Huuum and happy to assist you,

this is a very common happening and it means
This usually means that a seal is degrading or dissolving.
This washer is a top loader, Right!
I believe it calls for HE ( High Efficient) laundry detergent.
If we use to much of either it will cause this !

This usually happens due to using to much detergent or bleach.
You said, Black oil like residue discharged from washer during use. Stain clothes, almost impossible to remove. Loosened nut on agitator but it will not budge, and am afraid of damage if I try to pry between agitator and bottom of drum.
