SOURCE: Craftsman hydro gear transaxle problem

check the brake for sticking and dragging. check the bypass lever, make sure it's disengaged fully. did you just fix a flat rear tire? if so, the square key that links the axle and wheel fell out. do you pull a heavy garden cart around? that can stretch a belt and overheat the trans. last thought, check the belt and see if it came off a pulley, i know that should have been first but it's late and i'm tired. good night

Drive belt comes out

There is an adjustment to tighten up the drive belt tensioner pulley. You should be able too see it after you remove the safety shield. Tighten adjustment nut to snug belt.

Troy-bilt riding mower won't move in forward or reverse

I had a similar problem with my TroyBilt 50 inch zero turn mower. Was cutting grass when it stopped going either forward or backward even though it would start and the PTO would move the cutting blades. Turned out the tensioner spring for the belt that drives the motors near the rear wheels had gone missing. Searched the yard where I had cut and moved the machine but couldn't find it. A new one cost me about $7.50. Put the new one on and it worked fine.

Troy Bilt ride-on mower will not move in either fwd or reverse

Is the parking brake on? Or if it's a hydrostatic (automatic) there is a release lever to push the unit around when it isn't running. Most of those releases are on the back of the machine, and you just push it in for drive and pull it out to push.
