Engine starts fine. I can see the fuel running around the system (clear fuel pipe). Mower runs for a few minutes, 5 minutes then stops. Fuel isn't being pumped around. I wait a few minutes as the engine cools and the fire her up and it runs fine for another 5 minutes (fuel being pumped around). Then it does it again (stops pumping the fuel). It's a Kholer twin v 18hp engine. Has anyone got any advice? Thanks. C
If the engine has a black pump on the side of the engine it may be faulty, there is a diaphram inside, but the pump is non servicable, it takes a pulse from the cylinder head or rocker box, this pulses the diaphram, which then pumps the fuel, as there is no gravity feed from the tank, it requires the pump to fill the carb.

Hi,
It sounds like your engine is firing out of time.
Here is a link to the manual for your engine. It does contain some good info and I hope it will help you to solve this problem.

When it dies loosen the fuel cap and see if it will start. If it starts its because the tiny vent hole in the fuel cap is plugged.

Has your mower got a fuel cutoff solenoid in the bottom if the carby? If so you need to put your finger on the solenoid and turn your key from off to on and you should feel the solenoid click. If it dos'nt the solenoid may be faulty or the wire going to it may not be getting 12 volts. Check this wire for voltage with a test light or multimeter. Let me know how you go or if it has no fuel solenoid. Regards Phil.

check the fuel cap too,, it needs to be venting for better fuel flow, also,, when was the last time it got plugs,, it may be flooding out due to weak spark

Forgot to mention this is on a west wood tractor mower 18hp.
Hi there, the fuel is flowing around the system, but doesn't seem to be getting the spark plugs - dry when removed and yet the engine starts and runs for a few seconds when I use easy-start vis the air filter.
Any other ideas, or is this still a fuel pump problem?
Thanks
Chris
