This morning about 10 am I noticed that both the top and bottom doors were open, not enough for the lights to be on, just barely open. When I checked, things were starting to thaw. I closed them and now about 3 hours later, things are still thawing and the refrigerator is just barely cool. The freezer has kicked on, but the air coming out of it is just barely cool also. Whats wrong please?!

Their is a fan that blows the cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator section, on some models. If thsi fan is frozen or bad what you havwe discribed wil bew the result.

8yr old? Buy a new one. The cracking sound is from expansion and contraction of the cabinet and ice cooling or defrosting. It can be as simple as a bit of a top up of refrigerant, but can also be that your compressor has worn down the valve plates and therefore is not producing sufficient pressure throught the system.

the little fan motor in the freezer is defective. It may only be stuck.

Sounds as if you have a bad evep. Fan motor. It souldnt by over $40.00. And if the unit still look and works good other than this problem. It's located behind the inside back freezer panel. Diffaculty level in my opinion is a 5 out of a scale of 1 to 10. 10

If it is not from a plugged or misaligned defrost drain tube, then it is always from air leaking into your refer section. Check you door gasket to see if it is sealing correctly all around your door. Make sure your door is shutting tightly every time. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists.
