Wireless connection keeps falling

Hello, I've been having this problem for quite a while. When I first open the router everything seems to work fine but after a few minutes I can't surf. The connection signal is strong and I can use the desktop but not on my laptop. BTW, the signal is strong and the wireless connection is strong. When I get close to the router with my laptio everything seems to be working well again. Any idea?

    Thanks for your help.
It seems that the problem was that the signal was too low (the router was placed in a shelter room).
Anyway i placed the router on a higher shelf and now it seems to be working.

It may be just a problem of the signal bouncing around and your laptop is struggling at times to find the signal. Some earlier laptops don't have a wireless booster built in the screen. Go to your laptops' web site and see if there are any updated drivers for your wireless card. If still unhappy with results purchase a USB wireless dongle and dissable wireless card, it may have a better reception area, or purchase a signal booster that works in conjunction with your wireless router.

Adapter inactive

It is not the problem with the router. It is the problem with the wireless adapter on your computer. Open Network connections and look for Wireless network connection. If it is not there then open the Device Manager and look for Wireless network adapter under Network adapters. It seems that wireless adapter on your computer is not working or it is not detected by your computer. If you have external wireless adapter then unplug it and replug it.

Can't open setup page from Encore ENHWI-N3

The best way to open the setup page is to have a wired connection to the router. Once you plugin the router to both the modem and the computer, you want to reboot everything. After you've established a connection, open a browser window and go to 192.168.0.1. To login to the setup page, enter admin for user and admin for password. From there you can change your password and setup the secured wireless networking.
You should also be able to try this wirelessly, but you must be sure that you have selected the Encore network on your computer's wireless control panel.

Using Wireless + PPPoE at the same time kills router. SMCWBR14-G2

Hi,
From your description, I am assuming you have a direct ethernet connection from an RJ45 connection in a jack in the wall. If this is the case, then you would just need to purchase a wireless router (linksys, D-link, netgear, etc). Connect the ethernet connection from the wall to the routers internet or WAN port. You will need to access the routers firmware configuration and set it to connect with PPPoE, so get your username and password from your ISP if you are not sure what it is.

You will be able to continue to have the PC plugged into the router with an ethernet cable, and then run the laptop with a wireless connection, just be sure to configure the laptop with the security key if applicable.

If you were using a software PPPoE connection on your PC, quit using it. Just set your network adapters on both computers to DHCP, and you should be good to go.

Hope this helps

Cannot connect anymore

Does the router work with the wired port connection? It's entirely possible that the router just went belly-up on you ...Linksys is an awesome brand, but sometimes it happens.

If the wired part works, the wireless transmitter inside may have gone bad. Best to just get a new one for about $50 ...but keep the old one in case you need a wired connection somewhere else around the house :)
