Maybe it is due to the unsupported format issue. You could try some other free player software tools such as Leawo Blu-ray Player which support not only more than 180 formats but also can play Blu-ray and DVD.
You probably need more ram memory. Also try playing a video in your dvd player. If it plays slow and choppy you definitely need more ram memory.
If you are trying to play a video from a website (streaming) then three things can affect how smooth it plays.
1) Memory - your ram memory might be low
2) The website might be experience heavy traffic from many users.
3) The Line Speed of your internet connection from your service provider might be slow. For example: AT&T sells about 3 or 4 different packages and each one increases the line speed for uploading or downloading. If you buy the low end package the line speed is very slow on uploading and downloading or streaming. It's ok for just surfing, but nothing else.

Did u install any other programs anfter your vista instalation? try to uninstall them one by one, My guess is that one of the programs "kidnaped" you camera. By uninstaling one by one you can easy find out witch one it is. After uninstalling one program test your camera. If it works again you that program is the problem.
Good luck

yes get the most recent drivers, here
and try again
also reinstall direct x and upgrade to SP3 if you have XP
on board.. i'm assuming you do?
also another thing, it could be that model is just too old to play
flash clips on there, you need at least a 650 MHZ for any smoothness
the DRIVER

First find your VAIO Camera capture utility and configure it to see both your webcam and your microphone/ to do this if VAIO Camera Capture Utility is not in your start list of programs, Click on start in the space search "VAIO Camera" without the quotes. it should bring up the VAIO camera capture utility. Click on it/when it opens click on settings/ click on the Cam/mic tab and choose Sony Visual Communications Camera in the drop down under preferred Camera/ Do the same for your Preferred Microphone/ click OK/Now click the little red x in the far upper right of the VAIO Camera Capture utility to close it. Now in your chat software either Windows live chat or Yahoo chat or whichever one you have. I have Windows live chat/ configure your video in there as well to use your motion eye and your microphone. You should now be able to chat live seeing and hearing your guest as long as they have the same chat program.Do a search on google for "Windows Live Messenger" if you wish to use that utility to chat with. If you choose Windows Live Messenger, in the main window click on tools/ click on "Audio and Video Setup".
