Did the linkage change on the newer 42" mower deck? My older deck have a specific bracket welded on to allow the linkage to connect with the tractor to engaged the cutting blades. This new deck appears to have missing or there was a change in design leaving the bracket off. The manual show the bracket, but not connected to anything, Yet, the manual shows a spring connecting to the anti-sway bar bracket with a spring attached with a housing guide leading to take-up pulley that engages the mower blades.

It goes on top of the littlie flat idler on the right side,
the right and left side is by sitting on unit.
You will see a little hole in the top of the bolt a little pin goes in there and holds it in place.

This can be due to a belt slipping or a bad spindle bearing.
And on the difficulty scale,10 being extremely difficult, The belt would be a 1 or 2 and the spindle about 6 or 7 (because the deck usually needs removed for this job)
