Toro choke doesn't work

I bought the lawn mower last year and always had a hard time starting. This year I was able to run it last week but this week it would not start. I checked everything I could and found that the choke was wide open. I placed my hand infront of the choke and the mower started right on the first try. After the mower warms up there are no problems. Any Ideas on how to fix my choke to work correctly? My toro dealer wants to keep it for 2 weeks minimun. My yard can't go that long with out a hair cut.

SOURCE: Toro riding lawn mower. 12 h/p is hard to start

Hi there, It is most likely that the choke isn't closing fully. The throttle cable will need to be adjusted to cure this. The cable is clamped where it joins the engine. Simply slacken the bolt and move the outer cable out a bit. When you operate the throttle control you should see the choke start to operate near the start position. Make sure that the choke control rod operates to its fullest extent when the control is fully on the start position.

Toro Personal Pace sounds like it is running at half power

got oil in it, or do you add oil. Left outside alot, fuel line clogged. Is the gas old. Check the blades and the exit portion of the clippings. Does it have a drive train for ease of moving. those can bog down a mower. good luck

My Toro Model 20070 that until now has always started on the first pull, won't start at all now. It started fine last week. It's getting spark (a little more yellow than blue). I replaced the plug,...

Hold the butterfly valve (behind air filter) open with a screwdriver, while somebody else tries to start it. Toro has had problems with atuomatic chokes. If it fires right up, thats the problem! If so, just wire it open, or contact Toro for a repair kit. Try using starting fluid, not carb cleaner, and spray directly into the head through the spark plug port. If you didn't do it already, blow out all the ports in the carb with compressed air, or carb cleaner. Also, be sure the safety lever is engaging correctly (top bar on handle) at the engine. Lawn mowers are pretty simple, so the problem is most likely simple too.

Just bought a self propelled toro, model #120000. Used it last weekend and tried to use it again this weekend. The self propelling part isn't working. There's a bit of a grinding sound, but it...

It is possible that the scews and/or latches for the cover will be accesible UNDER the deck where the blade it. Have someone tilt it back while you check and/or hold it for you while you removes the retainers and screws. If the unit IS defective, I suggest you take it back as the Toro should be warranted.

Engine starts but won't continue to run. Choke doesn't stay closed after starting. will stay running only if I hold choke closed manually.

let it warm up with choke closed manually after it starts to stall with choke closed open it and dont let it stall u can learn to play with the choke a little to get it to run right GOOD LUCK!

Our Toro, guaranteed to start, won't start. We can cut awhile, then it will not restart. Plug is fine, getting a spark, and not at all wet, can't seem to find the problem. This doesn't...

I have the same problem. One time this happened and it restarted after a few hours and worked fine for 5 more cuts over a couple of months time. Now again it quit mid cut of my yard and would not restart. When trying to start it would fire for a few seconds and than shut off again. I wated a week to try it again and now it does nto fire at all. This is about a year old mower with only about 10-15 hours of total use.

My toro lawn mower is hard to start in cold weather. (40 to 50 degrees), I have an auto-choke. mower was bought in spring of 2010.

This is covered by the Warranty. Take it to a local dealer like www.arcolawn.com and have the thermostat replaced.
The first generation thermostats are known for sticking.

Good luck
