My laptop is just about 2 months old and i noticed 2 days ago that the white light around my touchpad doesn't come on anymore.Though everything still works perfectly and the red light still shows when i tap on the upper left corner to disable the touch pad.But the white light still doesn't come on when i reactivate the touchpad. i've tried system restore it didn't work.
Download and reinstall the touchpad drivers.
Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "HPSupport" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the Touchpad drivers.

That's a sign that the synaptic touch pad needs to be replaced. Eventually they wear out.

Will your laptop work properly with an external mouse? If so, check your touchpad settings in "Control Panel" by selecting "Mouse". Here you can reassign your Buttons. Try setting your Right Button function to "Double Click". If the "Double Click" function works on your Right Button then chances are you have a problem with your Touchpad Assembly which means it will have to be replaced. Dell refers to it as a "Palmrest" which they will replace if still under warranty.

Goto 'Control Panel - Mouse - Device Settings, Highlight the device in the list and then click settings. It Might just be that it needs re-configuring. Devices like this tend to loose there configuration due to being used so much and of course the ammount of pressure put on them. There is alot you can reset here. The touch pad does alot more than you think, We just dont bother to look at the settings because we are too busy looking at the screen, and rightly so. Im not saying this will rectify the problem but its worth a try.

Well this depends. If he did a restore that involved formatting the hard drive (or a detsructive restore), then no can't help you. If not, he may of just installed Windows over itself, leaving your file system intact. Either way,it's hard to say, because being your computer, I don't know where you ha your files saved to start. But more than likely you will have to start over.
