Check paper can also sometimes mean a jam. Remove the drum unit from the machine and check for a piece of paper inside the machine. Also with this machines feed path it can mean that a foreign object can fall down the back and obstruct the paper.
Your "Check Paper" problem is then most likely caused by faulty sensors or a broken roller. Using the faulty sensors, you can use the manual that came with the printer in order to locate and clean the sensors. If your sensors are not the problem, and the paper can be easily pulled out each time you try to print, then you have a broken roller. The replacement rollers cost about $120.
