When I try to turn my TV on, it will flash on for a half of a second and then turn off. I will unplug and repeat the steps of turning it on. At first it only took a couple of repeats but it has gotten a little worse over time. I tried to take it in for repair but apparently no one can fix Insignia TV's because Best Buy won't give out parts.
I bought the same TV in April 2006 and had the same problem starting late November. Best Buy sent a TV tech to my house who was able to fix it by resetting the TV. Apparently if you unplug the TV, and hold in the power button while plugging it back in, this will reset the TV. To my amazement it actually worked. I don't know how long it will last, but it appears to be at least a temporary solution. The tech came this morning, and I can still turn the TV off and on with no problems.
There are some capacitors on the power supply that are failing on this model...I have repaired several of these now for this complaint.. If you examine the power supply circuit board you will notice there are some caps that are or appear to be swelled up.. Some times the defective caps are not obvious..they need to be tested with a good cap meter... The caps need to be changed...or the power supply module is a replaceable part..as a whole part...this TV was designed to be what they call board level repair... I would have a tech check out the caps in the power circuit.. This board is very easy to get too...the caps are not expensive the cost of these parts will run you less than $20.00 if the caps are not your problem then the digital controller is going bad.. The chances of the LCD panel being bad are slim...but could be.. I have personally repaired several of these TV's.. You can get parts for this set...just not as easy to get as the typical Sony or Samsung would be.. Good luck...
My too. I was shocked to find that the hairdryer trick actually worked. Mine is out of warrentee so I'm going to spend the $100 to have a tech come and she what he can do with the tv.
Followed "graytrain"'s hair dryer solution with the hair dryer and got the old tv back on. this is four years later and on a 4 year old tv. guess i was a lucky one to have the thing last so long. surprizeling enough it is the newest and only one with a problem in the house of five tv's. other brands have less trouble. it does concern me that a year later gray train had to replace caps and i think they were not matches. ouch! looks like i may have time to save up
If capacitors are replaced they should be the same rating and should be replaced in properly
Has anyone filed the class action yet??
Mine is having the same problem. I bought my TV as a wedding present for my wife and 7 months later I walked up to turn the TV on and it just kept flashing RED...BLUE...RED...BLUE...
the INSIGNIA people were less than helpful at first but they ended up sending someone out to help me and they replaced one of the boards in the back and it worked fine until last night, 91 days later (the replacement part was only covered for 90 days conveniently). The board they replaced it with the guy said he took out of another broken TV and it had a big "BAD" written across the metal housing, very comforting but the contractor assured me it was OK. I have been on the phone with them for the last 2-3 Hours and their solution is "too bad, it's after the 90 days so it's really not our problem." They want me to pay $100 to get someone out to my house and try to fix it.
I took some electrical engineering classes in college to I am going to try my hand at replacing the capacitors if they seem to be broken as well as using the hairdryer.
FRUSTRATING!!!!!
Well i posted an earlier solution #15 i finally tried the hair dryer trick with the back cover off and wow it works.. i did notice that 2 of the 6 caps i have at the top are bad.. and to figure the electronic repair shop that told me it was my screen 2300.00 for a new one, holy c%@p because they didnt want to fix it but had no problem keeping my 110.00 dep. i think im going to try and get my money back. so im ordering new cap's.
thanks for the posts.
Man we also have this problem was told it was the power board and it would cost $400 to fix. called insignia they told be to bad we can't help you, call your local tv repair guy.

I want to thank Gray Train for the nice detailed instruction. I also have this exact same problem, and heating up the back of the TV no longer works. I will replace the capacitors, so please wish me luck. I also complained to Best Buy and it fell on deaf ears... they could care less. One of my employee's also works part time at Best Buy and told me that they changed manufacturers of their Insignia products last year due to an infinite amount of problems and complaints. Sharp now makes their products while some no namer out of Minnessota & Canada made the pathetic TV's we own. If anyone wants to take this to their state's attorney general I would be happy to help join in.
This is ridiculous, I'm having the same problem. I'm going to Best Buy tomorrow, its after the year warranty, but they have to hear about this and how many people are having the same issue. I agree, this should become a lawsuit if it was possible. Just did the hair dryer trick and it worked like a charm.
I'm having the same problem, and the hair dryer trick just worked. I agree, we should look into a suit, this rediculous, I'm returning to bestbuy tomorrow and having a talk with them, I know its over my year warranty, but this is just plain wrong.
Unbelievable! I've been cursing this tv for several days now - read these posts - tried the Hairdryer trick four times and presto! - we've got a picture!
Our solution will include leaving the thing on all the time - quite right - LCD uses very little power. In the meantime, I'll check to see what type of warranty I got from Future Shop when I bought it about two years ago. It will be quite interesting to see what they have to say.
Thanks again for all the help!
Rob
I tried the hair dryer trick and it didn't work at first but the second time I took a my time and it worked. So I figured it must be the power board. I called my local Best Buy and they sent me to Insigna and they sent me to Best Buy PartsSearch (888) 237-8289. I paid about $96.00 including freight and tax. I just installed and it worked like a champ. It was super easy to install also.
Thanks for the help.
Capacitor fix worked like a champ. Bought capacitors from www.newark.com - slightly larger width requiring some forming of the leads as width is 12.5mm instead of 10mm - Capacitors were:
Part number: 69K8267
Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor;
Capacit 687KXM035M ILLINOIS
Approx $0.55 ea
Higher ripple current tollerance that replaced Capacitor - should last longer - old Cap was of poor quality.
Yes, holding down the "on" switch and pluging the power in works to re-set the power supply. Yes, the hair dryer works. I found that one of the capacitors was swollen. The 680 micro farad, 35 volt radial was faulty. It has a strip and arrow pointing to the negative side. I purchased a 680 micro farad, 50 volt. It was not available in 35 v. Replaced the swollen cap, and all works fine.
Capacitor available at:
Electronic Connection

$3.39 + tax
A new power supply board is available from Circuit City Partssearch. Price is $64.00

I feel your pain. we have the same problem with our set. i took mine to the repair shop after a month and half. and tons of bs they told me it was the screen. not before telling me it was a power supply issue. and it was to costly to fix. but they are happy to keep money 110.00 dep. i will try the hair dryer trick.and let you know how it works. also they told me they could not get parts.
We need to file a class action law suit....this is too many people being ripped off by this company.....
Go to PartsSearch.com and you can buy all the parts you need for these Insignia TV's. Readily available.
I can't believe the hair dryer solution actually worked. My Insignia 32" LCD TV is barely 15 months old and like everyone else, Future Shop nor Insignia will take responsibility for their deffective product. I find it unbelievable that in today's day and age any company would put out a $2000 TV that will only last a year! It's pathetic....
I have had this problem as well and it got to the point where it wasn't coming on at all even after unplugging and plugging it back in. I tried the "ghetto" hairdryer trick and it worked perfectly. I wasn't smart enough to get it for free, but perhaps next time. If it continues to fail even after the hair dryer trick, I'll post again. Thank you so much, you just saved me a large chunk of change!
Its a temperature problem I have had 2 tvs with the same problem warm them to 70 degrees and they play nice. Who wants a tv that will not play below 70 degrees.

Well, I reported the problem to Best Buy and I got my money back for the TV and they let me KEEP THE TV! Now to turn it on, I just warm the back of the TV with a hair dryer for 60 seconds and it works great. It is ghetto but I got it for free!!
The local repair shop won't fix this brand of TV but I will try another one to see if they will fix it.
To do the hair dryer trick, for some reason you have to unplug your TV, then heat it up with the hair dryer. If the TV doesn't turn on after you have heated it up (like it tries to come on but then turns off) you need to unplug the TV again, this resets it. And repeat those steps till it works. Reseting the TV after it fails to turn on is the key. I've learned this after 6 months of trial and error. After 9 months of complaining and 50 phone calls to Best Buy, I finally got my money back.
Also, just leave the TV on. Don't turn in off. That is what I do now. Since it is LCD, it doesn't take much power...only a few bucks extra a month for your utilty bill.
After reading 2 of the other posts stating that the replacing of the capacitors worked, I tried it and to my pleasant surprise it worked beautifully. So, here is what I did. Do this at your own risk because I had no idea of what a capacitor even was before this. I was not sure if I needed to replace 1 or all of the capacitors so I just replaced all 3. At the local electronic part shop they were $2.28 a piece.
Need:
Solder Gun
3 Replacement capacitors (I used 680MFD 50V, they did not have a 35V)
(I took this picture with my phone to show the 3 capacitors that I replaced. All three were swollen on top)
There might be an easier way but took a pair of pliers and pulled the capacitor as I heated up a lead. It was a slow process wiggling it centimeters at a time.
After all three capacitors were pulled I simply heated up the previous weld and and pushed the new one through. This too was a tedious process moving centimeters at a time.
Since the 50V capacitors are 3 times the size you will have to bent/manouver the capacitors to fit in a row and the room to still fit the wires in the harness.
I aploligize that my electrical vocabulary is limited but I hope this helps.
The whole project took about 30 minutes. Below is the final picture with the new capacitors. Notice that the capacitors are not in a neat and clean row due to the size.
Good luck.
look for the capacitor that is crowned( top is not flat)probably the first on the top left of supply, could be a 1000uf or 860 uf.
So the hair dryer trick. What part of the TV on the back panel do you warm up? The actual control panel on the back? We have been leaving it on like you suggested, all was well until the power went off last night. I have tried numerous times heating up the panel of on/off , channel buttons on the back but it is not working. We are using a pretty long extension cord could that make a difference? Please help!
I have same problem. Tried unplugging, holding power button while
plugging in, hair dryer. Checked capacitors all look good. TV keeps
cycling off, on, stand by. Sometimes screen comes on but only for a few
seconds then TV turns off. Should I replace the power supply board? If
so, Where can I get one? It's an NS-32LCD Insignia brand. It's one
month past it's warranty and Best Buy can not and will not fix it.
Have power problem with Insignia IS-LCDTV32. I have discovered there are three to four bad capacitors on my TV. However if I use the hairdryer trick for about 5-7 minutes on high about 5-6 inches away from back of TV is will turn on. I leave the TV unplugged until warming with hairdryer. I have done this numerous times. You may not want to hold dryer too close. Look for the little areas of holes in the back panel of TV. Use these as your guide at where to use hairdryer.
I'm having the same problem as everyone else with my Insignia. The temporary fixes are great so I can get the TV to turn on, but want to shift focus to actually fixing. I'm more than a little nervous about replacing the capacitors, as I have never done any sodoring in my life. I saw one post saying replacing the whole power board is pretty easy. I'd be willing to go this route even though it is a few more dollars for ease of mind. Can anyone tell me what is involved with replacing the power board?
Contact me if anyone does the class action suit - BEST BUY S*cks! and does stand behind their product which is OBVIOUSLY designed and/or built with a defect.
My email is tsenator AT cisco DOT com
i try to turn it on but it just flashes the green light on amd off
Ordered and replaced capacitors. Still same problem with cycle on/off problem. Tv will not turn on with hair dryer and reset does not work. I read in a suggestion above then it is the digital controller. What is this? Where is this? Where can I get one?
My TV was doing the same thing I have an Olevia 37" TV. I went to youtube and found a video that showed how to fix it. I ordered the two radial type (looks like a barrel) 35Volt 680 microferid capacitors and soldered them in place. It Worrked! Sadly the television worked only for a few months. I think the Capacitors are bad again. So,I'm gonna try to repeat the repair. Could it be the power supply is taking out the capacitors?
