Prior to the final spin cycle on a GE top load washer. I hear the drain pump run for a couple of seconds and then stop for a little bit, then run for a couple of seconds and then stop again. When the spin cycle kicks in, because the drain pump doesn't run continuously, the tub starts spinning with water still in the tub. I'm afraid that this is putting too much strain on the spin motor. Eventually all of the water pumps out, but I'm afraid that I'm going to burn up the spin motor. During the first drain after the initial agitation, I can hear drain pump run continuously prior to filling the tub for the first rinse, but I don't hear it pumping continuously prior to the final spin. I removed the front access panel to see if there were any blockages in the sump or drain hoses, but they seemed fine. Spun the pump impeller and it spun freely and quiet. Also noticed that the drain pump is electrical and not belt driven. Could it be that the drain pump motor is overheating and shutting itself off meaning replacement of the drain pump or could it be a timer problem not keeping the drain pump running?
Jayron, is the motor jogging? start to spin, stop, start to spin stop. If so, your motor is jogging between the high and low start windings. The motor during spin should start on the high speed windings and stay there until most of the water is drained. GE came out with a new motor, harness and run cap because of this. If you have a meter, there should be a white and white/red wire going to the motor. If you have a steady 120V and it's doing this jogging, replace the motor with the kit...Let me know if this the issue, Catriver..post back.
The part number for the kit is wh49x10035, The harness is easy to splice in, all color coded. The kit comes with instructions. Check out this link http://www.repairclinic.com/0081.asp?Rcc... Catriver...post back.

Hi
This issue usually occurs due to kinked drain pipe, clogged
drain filter or drain pump. First make sure that the drain is not clogged and
remove clogs if present. If no visible lint is present then remove the lower
front access panel to check the drain filter and drain pump for any clogs,
you'll need to clean the drain filter and drain pump completely. Hope this
helps... Please post back for any further assistance.

Catriver,
That's exactly what's happening. Doesn't happen all of the time, but when it does, it's a big pain. I'll get the meter on it to check voltage.
Would you happen to know the part number for the kit? Are the harness and cap included when ordering a replacement pump or are all items sold separately?
Thanks!
Catriver,
That part looks like the tub motor. The tub agitates and spins fine. I think my problem is with this part

Same symptoms like you mentioned, but with the drain pump. The drain pump is not belt driven. Has 2 wires going to it, Red/White and Black. I put the meter on it to see if it I was still getting 120V when the drain pump stopped, but of course it didn't stop with the meter on it.
i can hear the motor trying to draing water is before the spin cycle
How to replace drain pump.
Not draining water
continually UNLOCKS during load cycle timer mechanism has never ben accurate
