CMOS Settings is Wrong! USB Device over Current Status Detected!

Please select your operating system.
Download the asus update utility and upgrade the bios
its the easyest way to do that.
Unzip the file before you install it.

You can also reset the bios to factory settings.
Look in the manual how you do that and for troubleshooting also.

Couple of things will cause this:

1] a problem with the front USB connectors - you can try just unplugging them from the motherboard and see if this will help

2] a short circuit caused by the metal raisers that is used to hold the motherboard in place - sometimes - just loosening the screws that holds the motherboard in place will do the trick, but if u have the patience, you can remove the motherboard and look for any place that the metal from the raisers that holds the motherboard in place is touching tracks on the motherboard.

3] I don't think i should have to mention this but of course, if you plugged something into the USB port that is drawing too much current - just remove it.

this message popped up because one of the device which you connected to the usb of the pc was overdrawing current i.e more than 5V DC. Hence, the built in system security gave this message and will shut down your computer in 15 seconds. In order to avoid this message first remove all the usb items connected to it and then connect one by one and detect the faulty one and replace.

Pull the little battery on the motherboard, and unplug the PC, let it sit for a minute or so. Put the battery back in and turn it on, BIOS should be reset.

dead battery ...buy a new cmos battery for £2 ..make sure you install correct way up...

from any pc shop or ebay...

you will have to reset date /time in bios afterwards...f2 or delete usually to enter bios settings..

Have you checked all USB port sockets to see if any of them are broken? I mean inside the socket itself. It is easy to break the small plastic black tongue in these (e.g. by bending down on a USB memory stick. Then when you put another USB plug into it, the 4 contacts can get bent and the +5V will short out with the case.
Check all USB sockets.

"USB +5v" = VCC
"USB_P5-" = -D
"USB_P5+" = +D
"GND" = GND

Situation Remedies If you have encountered this error and would like to fix your computer, here are some remedies for each situation:
CMOS Battery Not Functioning Properly: If you suspect your CMOS battery is not functioning properly you can easily change it. Make sure that the values entered in the BIOS are correct or simply reset them to the default settings. If you believe that a virus updated your BIOS settings, run a virus scan and make sure that the BIOS settings are back to the default.
The Computer Was Shut Down Improperly: Sometimes when running MS Windows, if you shut down your laptop or desktop without first properly shutting down your operating system it will corrupt the CMOS settings causing the CMOS Checksum Bad Error. You can easily avoid this error by making sure that you completely shut down your computer before turning off the power. Usually this entails going into the Start Menu/ Turn Off Computer/ Shut Down. If you received the error, shut down the computer properly, if this is the cause of the error, the error message will not return.
