The white wire coming out of the cook top is the ground wire for the fan. The black and white wires from the house each carry 120 volts (the cook top needs 240 volts), the copper is the house ground.
The correct connections are as follows.
Black to black
House white to cook top red
House copper to cook top white and green.
The cook top has two ground wires, one for the elements and one for the fan.
You should double check the wiring at the circuit box, but if it's like mine then black and white are both hot, and copper is ground.
So, connect
Jenn-Air Wall
Black Black
Red White
White Copper
Green Copper
I've just finished wiring up mine like this and it works perfectly.
Those wires dont go to the down draft. those colors are to hook up the stove. do you have the instalation instructions?
