I have an acer aspire 5610 computer. A while ago my dog ate my power cord so I purchased a new one, a general adapter with multiple tips available. Without doing research I assumed at the time it was a good option, perhaps not, but too late now. The adapter worked fine for a long time (more than 6 months with no issues), but for the last couple months it has to be in juuuuust right to charge -- usually with the tip hanging half out of the port, or at just the right angle, etc. Accidentally breathe heavily on the computer and it could stop charging, at which point you have to search again for the sweet spot. Do I need a new adapter? A new dc jack? Just get the dc jack resoldered? Thoughts?
Yes! the DC jack will probably need to be resolded, and I would recommend replacing the power adapter because it may fix your problem, I find the universal supplies don't fit as tight as the original ones. www.ebay.com is a good place to start for power supply replacement.

Does the cable seems cut near the jacks? Try with two car lamps connected in series (12v each) to see if the power supply works OK.
Stelios.

Hello, from what i have read, it seems you have'nt considered that the Battery itself may be the issue at hand.. If not, I recommend that it now becomes the focus at this time.
Testimonial: "Thank You it would make since and ill go to the store and pick one up becuase it will only take a charge when the power chord is in a certain position"
