SOURCE: Kenmore washing machine stops and there is a burning smell
Your motor is tired.
Replace the motor or the washer.
SOURCE: kenmore washer has burnt smell
It's possible that when you replaced the coupler, you didn't exactly line up the holes in the 6 hole rubber piece with the prongs on the transmission and motor.
If they aren't lined up exactly, they can break and rub creating the smell and clicking as the prongs hit each other.
I'd pull the cabinet and check the coupler again.

I'd pull the coupler off again and make sure that the prongs and holes line up correctly. If they weren't aligned when you replaced the coupler, they could be sliding on and rubbing the rubber connector down.
I'd also make sure that the plugs for the motor are correctly in place.
Following is the Whirlpool Service Manual for these machines. It doesn't have a "troubleshooting" answer for a burning smell but you might be better able to diagnose the smell by looking at how the motor connections fit.

The most common cause for the coupler failing is a bad gearcase. The machine should go through a neutral drain before the spin if it doesn't drain the water first it over works the motor trying to spin a full tub. No belt on this one, odor could be from the motor or the coupler starting to shred again.

what has happened is that the coupler has not been fully seated on the gearbox shaft, the motor shaft, or both. you should use a socket and hammer to firmly seat the plastic coupling on each shaft. If the coupling is not properly seated, the washer will work, you will get rotation, but there will be constant back pressure on the motor shaft, pushing it against the rear bearing race and the pump at the rear, the added friction causes heat buildup in the motor and sometimes overtemp switch operation. Just solved this tricky problem myself. another clue that the coupler isn't fully flush and seated is the last motor retention strap is very difficult to get on, due to the 1/8-1/4 inch extra length.
