I have a aquarius hotpoint 340, bearing gone

You have to split the drum to replace the bearings

The reason the bearings have gone is that water has leaked into them and the soap content has destroyed the grease

There is a carbon seal on the spider assy which attaches to the back of the drum , this normally cracks so the spider or seal has to be replaced

I have a similar Hotpoint model to this, that does something very similar now and again, usually when trying to set a delayed start.

The only way I have found to "fix" it is to turn the machine off for at least 5 minutes, and then try again.

Hope this helps.

My Hotpoint BWD129 washer/dryer has got noisier and noisier during the spin cycles. It is now so loud it is unbearable to be in the same room as it and it rattles anything off the worktop nearby. Any...

This is most likely the drum bearings failing.

Drum bearings normally last a long time (10 years or more isnt unusual), but quite often drum bearing failure is caused by a faulty drum shaft seal allowing a small amount of water through and in to the bearings. The bearings then start to rust and this accelertes how quickly they deteriorate.

Replacing a drum bearing requires well above average DIY skills, so unless you feel you can do it, can get hold of a tech manual, and can find a supplier for the bearings, it's time to get a quote from an engineer.
