I just bought a 16gb scandisk micro cuzer. Whenever I plug it in to the USB on my AVH-P5000DVD it says error 23. The manual says that means the flash drive needs to be formatted to FAT32 or FAT16. I did that and it still says the same thing. How do I fix this?
I had the same problem with my Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD. Just got my 16GB sandisk micro cuzer in the mail from Radio Shack. Here is what I did to solve it:
Before you do this: Reformatting the drive also gets rid of the software that makes the cruzer mini copy files super fast. It will take a lot longer to copy music to the drive. For me this is no big deal as the only reason I bought the drive was to put a bunch of music on it and then leave it in my truck.
OK Guys , I was searching on the internet and I saw you have this problem and I know how to fix it so here is the solution :
1) download "HP USB Disk Storage Format" from this link :

2) install it on your computer and insert your flash memory (memory stick or whatever) and run "HP USB Disk Storage Format"
3) in the HP USB Disk Storage Format window screen chose your device ( your flash memory ) and file system ( FAT32 ) and click on start button.
NOTE : ALL OF THE DATA IN FLASH MEMORY WILL ERASE !
4) when formating has finished, copy all musics and stuff in the flash memory and you'll be able to use your flash memory on any pioneer devices !

I have run across the same problem on my pioneer deh5000 usb and it was because of the block size on my jump drive it had to be the default allocation size. I have also heard that the problem can be the file structure whether it is fat32 or ntfs. I think only fat32 works on the pioneer decks. To change the file structure and or allocation size you can go to my computer and right click your jump drive and go to format then a screen will pop up with all these options. And in case you do not know formatting the drive will get rid of all your songs on there. Sorry if none of these help.
You have to disable the U3 launchpad on the cruzer usb stick, but you should save the launchpad.zip somewhere if you want to reactivated the U3 features again.
There should be a file called U3 or launchpad uninstall. Run it, put your wavs mp3s accs etc. on it, love it.
This error basically comes when the allocation unit size (KB's) not supported with your car head unit.
So the Solution for the Error 23 Would be re-format your USB drives File system to FAT (Default) with its allocation Unit Size to 32 Kilobytes.
Note: NTFS or FAT 32 is allocations units ( 4096 Bytes)
I'm having the same issue on my PIONEER DEH-X7850BT Single Din unit. My USB is formatted to FAT32. But I still get error 23. Tried multiple USB sticks and still doesn't work.

Faca beckape do pendrive antes de tudo.
If you are formatting with windows 10 it writes disks as GPT partitions, they must be MBR partitions to be read. Or aka primary partitions, use mini partition tool free to recreate the USB partitions as described then format fat32

I had the same message this morning on my deh-p310ub.the songs i already had on the jump drived played fine, but when i got to the songs i added last night the "error 23" popped up.should i format my jump drive because i just plugged it in and started putting music on there but it worked fine.
i have a dell usb memory stick. i have tried to format it in fat32 and fat formats, i have a pioneer 4050 cd/usb player, it shows error 23 again and again. please help...

Change your disk partitions to MBR NOT GPT which is windows 10 default. Then format fat 32. Try mini partition tool free version
NTFS why not support?
