Tecra r840 wont start (Won't even go to boot menu)

What I would like to know is what will need to be replaced. I still have the extended warranty, so money isn't a problem. My older brother says the problem may be caused by either the internal power supply or the motherboard. Here's some details: LED power light turns on slowly(takes 3 seconds to go to full brightness instead of the usual 1 second) I have tried all relative solutions in this model's manual The fan(s) and hard drive don't make any noise at all. Turning it off with the power button doesn't work no matter how long you hold it. The only way that worked was to remove the battery. AC/DC adapter LED on laptop flashes orange

EDIT (3/13/2012) : It sucks that I already sent it in to a shop to be repaired already, but on the other hand, if either my brother or I had opened more than the hard drive panel, my extended warranty on this would be void! Thanks for the the solutions anyway!

Try reseating the RAM module/s. If it still does not boot up then then RAM could be faulty, remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you.

SOURCE: Will not boot up

this is motherboard hardware issue
1) first all you need take out all devices like HDD DVD, wireless card then try turn it on if noting yet
2) change RAM stick that you have done
3) check DC PWM standby status, like 3V/5V/1.8V which should be appear before power on.
if no 3V/5V DC output, check this PWM circuite like MOSFET or PWM chip.
if you find 3V/5V, so need check 1.8V DC output and 1.2V that chip fail also cause nothing turn on.
all steps need diagram check where the chips and componenets on your board.
hope help you something fixed, please take a rating let me know how much helped you thanks! keep in touch your question

SOURCE: C500 Laptop won't come on power button just flashes

Have you tried attaching an external monitor when the LCD screen is disconnected from the motherboard? this connector is located under the keyboard strip – a piece of plastic just above the keyboard.
If it works, this way, then the video cable isn’t seated properly in the connector on the back of the screen. Plugging the video cable back in should fix the problem.
I don’t know how comfortable you are with taking apart laptops but I think that this information could be useful for you.

SOURCE: I can not get the laptop to boot up. It will not

Hello agasmier,

You may either clean the CMOS port or change the CMOS battery itself.

If you're not techie or if my answer sounded gibberish, a visit to a local technician might be a safe advice, just for good measure.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I would need some more explanation on this kind of issue.

It seems u have performed most of the steps to isolate the cause of the issue.

are you getting BIOS ???

if not...I guess there has to be something with the motherbaord.. then u need to check the follwoing recall program from HP. if ur laptop is in that then u can get the discount in repair otherwise u need to really concern the local tech to replace the MB.

Your hard drive may have gone south. Remove it and check with diagnostic software. Bad sectors in critical areas of operating system data will do this.

It wont boot, goes to black screen with whit blinking dash

Yes, this sounds like the traditional black screen issue, but it's different! This machine is a Dell Dimension 3000 with XP. System won't boot. After Blue Dell BIOS splash screen with F2 & F12 options, it just goes black. There will ultimately be a white cursor in the upper left hand corner. I can edit BIOS with F2, I can get in to the boot menu with F12, but I can't do anything after that. I can even get in to the Safe Mode menu (F8), but it never boots.
