I believe that you should always choose only the highest quality, and it applies to any category of purchases. My hobby is hunting, so when it comes to buying binoculars, I tried to find many models to compare and the best for myself. In the end, my comfort while hunting depends on it, and I'm ready not to skimp on this.

You can contact the Records Office of Cody Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. The Cody Firearms Museum holds the records of 3.5 million individual Winchester firearms and many LC Smith and Marlin firearms.

Information that may be in a record includes the date the gun was received into the warehouse, the configuration of the gun, and the date the gun shipped out. The company to whom the gun was sent may be available for very late Model 1873s and 1886s and most of the run of the Model 21. There are no records for the Models 42, 12, 54, or 70.

There is a charge for Factory Letter information but this and any other questions should be answered by contacting the Records Office.

Winchester 1894/94 Serial Number List Determining date by serialization has become confusing as it has been determined by the staff of the Cody Firearms Museum that previous work by George Madis is incorrect. This is not due to the quality of work performed by Mr. Madis, but by the questionable data provided to him. The following list includes the data held at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody Wyoming (CFM) and the previously understood figures (Madis). It is up to the collector to make the best use of this data that they can.

SOURCE: Purchased a Winchester rifle at a sale, serial

The best way to find this out would be to take it to a Gun Dealer or search the Winchester site and find a match. It is usually stamped on the barrel but if that has worn off your best bet is a gun dealer. Unfortunately only Winchester or the federal government could tell you anything about it by the serial number. Very few people have that kind of access.

SOURCE: I have a winchester model

The best way to determine the market is to search the Internet or E-bay for your rifle and see what prices are offered.

Hey any help is appreciated. I have a Winchester 22 caliber pump action rifle. That has alot ot detailed engravings and a gold squirl and a gold rabbit on the sides. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to...

Your best bet is to contact Rock Island Auctions to determine the age and model of this firearm. Another source of information is the Blue Book Of Firearms Values by F.P. Vjestad, which is updated annually.

Where is serial no on cooey 64 22cal auto LR can't find one

Your rifle was probably manufactured at a time when serializing was only done on larger caliber guns. Many .22lr rifles have no serial number so I wouldn't expect to find one. At one time the model 64 was manufactured by Cooey, Winchester or Lakeland, so the roll stamp on the barrel at the chamber end is your best bet in refining the information you have. There are a dozen manufacturers firearms dating from the 1900 through 1967 that did not serialize small bore guns because it was not required by law. The National Firearms Act of 1967 put an end to that - now every firearms produced for sale in the US has to be serialized.

What is the year and value of Winchester 1890 22 short in good condition. serial # 644229

Hello, Mike -

1. I took the liberty of re-categorizing your question from Optics (binoculars, gun sights, lenses, etc.) where it landed, to Firearms.

2. I doubt most who volunteer to answer questions on Fixya.com are qualified to provide you a value for your rifle. For one thing, an appraiser would need to look and handle the rifle, which is a major challenge online. :) (Note: My now late father, a licensed auctioneer, used to sell the firearms of his friends who had passed away for their widows and I know he needed to look over all of the firearms in-person.)

3. As for the year your Winchester 1890 was manufactured, you are fortunate in that the Winchester Repeating Arms company provides a PDF document (you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader software (free) installed) listing the models of firearms and range of serial numbers and what year they were manufactured. This is the link:
http://www.winchesterguns.com/content/dam/winchester-repeating-arms/support/faq/serial-number-reference/Winchester-Manufacture-Dates-by-Year-2012-Scanned-Documents.pdf

Easier than looking through the lists on the Winchester Repeating Arms document, though, the database offered by the website for Antique Guns and Collectible Firearms and Militaria Headquaters
(home page: http://oldguns.net/ ), Winchester Dates of Manufacture:
http://oldguns.net/sn_php/winmods.htm
I think you can figure it out. :)

4. First, your local public library may hold a recent book or two listing estimated values of firearms. One title which is updated regularly is The Blue Book of Gun Values. Note: Using your local public library and its collections represents your taxpayer dollars at work!

Second, read the questions and answers about gun appraisers here:
http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=311759

Second, you can conduct a search using your favorite search engine (Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, etc.) using the following search phrase:
firearms appraiser
OR
firearms appraisals

Third, the International Society of Appraisers provides a database which can be searched. This is the link:
https://www.isa-appraisers.org/find-an-appraiser
Enter the word firearms in the search box.

The American Society of Appraisers offers a similar database:
http://www.appraisers.org/find-an-appraiser
In the ASA Specialty search box (only), choose Firearms.

Personal opinion: To find an appraiser to value your rifle, I suggest you do not go to a firearms dealer, who may opt to purchase your rifle outright, since he / she may have a vested interest in the value of your rifle. Be prepared to pay a fee for an appraisal.

Best wishes.

Date of manufacture of a Model 90 Winchester Pump Rifle .22 wrf - Serial # 774741, and a source of this information. Thanks!

Contact WInchester. You can get some limited information from the Blue Book. See your local gunsmith or shop for access to that info.

.22 wrf is not .22lr - be careful when buying ammo. You need to check for obsolete caliber ammunition to feed this firearm.

I have a Winchester 30-30 with the number 4893370

Hello, Mark -

What do you need to know about your Winchester .30-30? Are you wishing to learn what year the rifle was manufactured? If so, the Winchester firearms company has records of the firearms they manufactured and so that you can identify the manufacturing year.

Go to this Winchester web page:
http://www.winchesterguns.com/support.html

Look along the left sidebar until you see the link for Date Your Firearm. Left click on that link. There is a link to a PDF (Adobe Reader) document with date ranges and serial numbers.
