Sorry, it's not an answer, but I have the same problem right now with the actual filter. Replaced it once, but now won't come off. Will replace with my BLUE cap, once filter is off. How did you fix yours?

Are you sure what you're turning is a bypass cap? KitchenAids don't usually have bypass caps.
If it is a bypass cap though, make sure you're turning to the left. It could be tougher because it's under pressure, so turn the water off going to the fridge and run the water out the dispenser if there is any.

How do I remove a refrigerator water filter bypass cap?

It should twist about a quarter-turn counterclockwise - like from the 3:00 position to the 12:00 position - then pull straight out. It fits the housing exactly the same way as the filter fits it.

I can't unscrew the plug on the water reservoir??

Same thing happened to me. The plastic cap gets "stripped" inside and won't catch to turn. I removed the plastic cap with a big wrench and a lot of muscle. Then used an adjustable to remove the metal screw-in plug. I still use it this way and put the metal cap on and off with a wrench. Just have to be very careful as it gets extremely hot.

I can not get the water filter out. It won't budge. I have changed it before with no problem. Any suggestions?

Hello, Thank You for using FixYa. I will be helping you today. Try turning off the water supply and dispensing any water you can out of the water dispenser after the water is off. This might reduce the pressure on the filter and make it a little more easy to remove.

By mistake, when removing the water to replace it, I turned the cap and it came off. realizing my mistake I replaced the cap, pressed the button and tried to pull it straight out per the instructions on...

the directions state To change the filter you would 1.) remove the cartridge cap (counterclockwise to a vertical position) and pull the filter out through the base grille. Directions state there will be water in the cartridge so some spilling may occur. 2.) remove the cartridge cap by sliding it off the end of the old cartridge. The cap will slide to the left or right. Do not discard the cap. 3.) Take the new cartridge out of the package and remove protective cover from O-rings. 4.) Slide the cartridge cap onto the new cartridge. 5.) With cartridge cap in the vertical position, push the new filter cartridge into the base grille until it stops. Rotate the cartridge cap clockwise to a horizontal position. Its the first part of doing this thats a real pain but after you get by the first instructions the replacement becomes easy if you have any further questions message me back Thanks again Rick

We have a KitchenAid Superba Refrigerator trying to replace the water filter and the cap won't budge. model: KSRG25FKBT03/ turning counter clock wise. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi

These caps can be very stubborn to remove, the 'o' ring seal can almost lock it into place.

There are 2 things you can try

Switch off and unplug the fridge

Switch off the water supply and open the dispense valve

1. Use a hair drier to warm the cap, be careful as this can get very hot, you may choose to use gloves if it seems very hot, be careful not to overheat as this can distort the cap. Then twist anticlockwise and pull to remove the filter cap.

2. Put a shallow tray on the floor below the filter and cap, carefully and slowly pour hot (not boiling) water over the can then ,wearing gloves, twist anticlockwise then pull to remove the cap.

You may need to persevere if the filter has not been changed before.

Having changed the filter then plug in the unit and switch on the power and water and draw off water from the dispense valve in 5 second burst for about 2 mins to remove air from the filter and ensure that clean water is right through the fridge.

Good luck

I bought my home in 6/09, there is a omnifilter wholehouse water filter u25 installed, in the basement. On the top of the product it says bypass. My question is What does this filter do exactly and what...

Inside the housing is a replaceable filter cartridge. Filters used for this type whole house filter housing come in micron ratings from 5 micron - 50 micron. The smaller micron the finer it filters (that is not always good because it can significantly reduce flow rate and pressure in home). 30-50 micron filters are the most common used. The filter should be changed every 3 months minimum and sanitized with a a cap full bleach when reinstalling filter. Omni filter housings are notorious for the bypass leaking when turned and the bypass freezing up to where it won't turn. There are no manuals for this.
You can find filters at most any hardware store or water treatment company.

I have an amana refridgerator with the ice maker and water dispencer. Neither one is working anymore and I was wondering if you could help in this problem?

Use the blue bypass cap which came with your refrigerator and check to see if the water filter is clogged. With the bypass installed you should get water from dispenser. If no water even with the bypass cap installed, check your water source and make sure it is turned on and no kinks to the connection line to the refrigerator. If you are 100% sure your water source is good TO the unit, then your Filter/Head assembly is not working properly.

Water filter won't come out when I push the button

Push button? It should be a turn to the left to remove if it is a whirpool located at the bottom. These are twist out not push to release. The only push to releases are made by electrolux.
