Installed xp pro sp2 on new hdd. Goes through the install process until just before it is completed and is removing the temporary files it boots and then loops. Also, will get the 7b blue screen at times. Have gone through recovery console fixboot, fixmbr, chkdsk etc. no help except the chkdsk will take care of the blue screen but then loops.
Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty computers need all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end to be able work properly motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail check all electrical power input and extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working also check the Cmos battery and computer RAM modules make sure they are securely seated with no dust built up or in the sockets on some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in check you CPU make sure its securely seated and has thermal grease might be getting to hot another possible reason could be a memory dump you might be running to many programs at the one time putting to much strain on the CPU central processing unit hope this helps you
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
even something as small as a faulty electrical extension or fan lead can cause you problems

OK, I have changed connectors for HD, CDRom including changing out CDRom, removed all periphals including sound card, mouse, USB ports, and isolated both HD. Connectors on MB from PSU seem to be nice and firm connections, cant really test them. The PSU and fans seem to work. This unit has 4 diagnostic lights that all show good. I even low level formatted HD and jump through the hoops for the possiblity of a missassigned of the drive letter. Still loops after installation and 07b blue screen. I'm down to the MB unless someone has another avenue.
One more thing I also updated the BIOS to the latest version
because you have updated bios the drivers might not be compatible causing BSOD
try booting into safe mode continually tapping the F8 key while the screen is black
where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse
click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll through all of your devices
if you see a yellow question or exclamation mark ? ! or a red X you will need to update the drivers for this device right click select update driver/reinstall driver
if you can see your usb device but its not working scroll to Ports(Com&Ltd) right click to update driver
if you computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it
or you might have to download one
also you might try failsafe or optimized defaults
Restart your computer
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the delete or F2 key
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
Okay back to the issue. I can't boot to Safe Mode, I get the 07b blue screen. I did attached another PSU, reformatted, chkdsk and clean reinstall of XP pro sp2 and the issue repeated itself with the new PSU. So I am back to the MB?
bluescreen can be caused by a number of things
a bad driver loose or faulty lead or not having enough ram
click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll through all of your devices
if you see a yellow question or exclamation mark ? ! or a red X you will need to update the drivers for this device right click select update driver/reinstall driver
if you can see your usb device but its not working scroll to Ports(Com&Ltd) right click to update driver
if you computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it
or you might have to download one
you might not have enough RAM random access memory not having enough will cause your computer to run over its maximum limits and can cause the blue screen of death and hang and cause memory dumps
make sure your ram modules have a dust free secure seating
if you dont want to install more ram uninstall some unnecessary programs
a bad or faulty motherboard lead or its connection if its a flat 40 pin ide it will be the first to fail
make sure all leads have a dust free secure connections
