My Sony Bravia KDL-40W4100 TV has a muting option (which I have selected in the setup menu) in which closed captioning kicks in when the sound is muted. I also have a Logitech Harmony 880 remote which I have programmed to do the basic commands of the Bravia TV. However, pressing the "mute" button on the Harmony merely mutes the TV with no closed captioning. I've tried "learning" the IR command, including learning it "raw" but nothing changes. Any suggestions?
Do you use a Home Theater receiver along with your televison? Are other components, such as a DVD player, VCR, Blu-ray player, etc. connected?
If so, it's possible that the Mute function on your remote is muting the sound from your receiver, and not the TV itself.
If that's the case, you'll need to look at the details of the "default" buttons for your activities, and see whether the Mute function is associated with your TV or your receiver. If it's set for the receiver, you need to change it to be associated with the TV.
