Kenmore 70 Series Electric Dryer will not start

I have a Kenmore 70 series dryer. The dryer started shutting down mid cycle and would restart after letting it sit for a while. Now when I push the start button all I get is a buzzing noise and then a click. Nothing will happen until I let it sit or unplug and let sit. Then the same thing keeps happening. Thanks in advance.

Well I replaced the hi-limit thermostat and the thermal cut-off and the thermal fuse. The dryer ran for about 20 minutes and shut off. Same problem as I had before. Any other ideas or am I just wasting my time?

More then likely your heating element is grounding out then. You can remove the heating element and visually inspect it for any breaks along the coils if there are none reinstall taking care that none of the element comes in contact with any part of the dryer case. If you find a break replace the element.

It sounds like the hi-limit thermostate and/or the thermal cut-off is what is causing your dryer to shut down. Basically it's over heating. You should replace these two items togeather. Also the thermal cut-off will be triggered by a grounded out heating element. Here is a diagram of where these items are located. hope this helps

Kenmore 70 series dryer shut off in mid cycle and will not restart when I push the start button. any suggestions?

Hey GOD IS GOOD !!!!
Electric dryer no start does nothing

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage.

CHECK THERMAL SHUT OFF THERMOSTAT USUALLY LOCATED ON THE BLOWER. for OHMS or resistance with a meter. Should show a closed circuit. Ohms WHEN THIS FUSE BLOWS IT WILL SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING.

NEXT Test the PUSH start switch with meter for OHMS. Should show OHMS when pushed in or on start, and no ohms or infinity when in off position.

If you hear a humming/clicking sound from motor area you more than likely have a bad motor.
Try this test out to see if u have weak windings or relay/capacitor on motor.
Open the dryer door and turn by hand the drum while machine is on ON position. And you or someone else presses the door engagement switch in. If it starts up then u have bad windings

Another thing to check is the belt safety switch. With a multi meter.
Especially if u just replaced the belt. The belt safety switch is attached to the Tensioner and motor. IT LOOKS LIKE A DOOR SWITCH SOMEWHAT a little black pc of plastic with 2 prongs going into it. Sits at bottom of motor. Under the Tensioner. Attach meter clips to the 2 prongs on switch, Then when the little white push button is pressed in it should show continuity and none when released.

Lastly check ur DOOR SWITCH for continuity with a meter when the button is pushed in the (on/Door closed position,) it may have gone bad.

I have a Kenmore Series 70 Dryer and I changed the thermal fuse got hot for a few minutes the model #110.74722400

The cycling thermostat must also be replaced when replacing the thermal fuse. The cycling thermostat's failure to cycle off the heating element results in overheating of the dryer which consequently blows the thermal fuse open.

jahn27_559.jpg

Replacing only the thermal fuse should the dryer stops running and fails to start will result in its premature blowing or even the thermal cut-out (cut-off) located on the heater duct. Like the cycling thermostat, the high-limit thermostat must also be replaced once the thermal cut-out blows open. Refer to the parts diagram in the link below and look for item numbers 31(thermal cut-off), 34(hi-limit thermostat), 39(thermal fuse), and 41(cycling thermostat.

Kenmore 70 series dryer shuts off and won't restart

IT SOUNDS AS THOUGH THE MOTOR IS OVERHEATING AND SHUTTING ITSELF OFF. THAT IS ABOUT THE ONLY THING ON THE DRYER THAT WOULD SHUT IT OFF AND NOT ALLOW IT TO START AGAIN RIGHT AWAY, BUT LET IT START AFTER A WHILE. MAKE SURE THE MOTOR TURNS FREELY. IT SHOULD NOT DRAG OR HUMM WHEN TRYING TO START.

Signal

Kenmore 70 series. Model/Stock 66702692 Serial MG2402832

Cycle Signal works but then won't shut off until I open up the dryer door - it just keeps buzzing for hours. Also the dryer will turn on if I close the door ( and arrow is within a number and not on off) without pressing the start button. So if door is closed - the dryer will run or buzz (depending on arrow). How do I fix this?

Thank you
