My H5470NOGB has developed a fault with the door. The door opens but when you close it it will not latch. The light and the clock works but you can't microwave of cause
Theres a small plastic hook inside the door which holds a tension spring this will have snapped off stopping the latch from entering the lock its actually quite easy to fix the inner plastic frame can be unclipped with a small flat blade screwdriver exposing the hook mechanism and the spring will be lying in the bottom of the door frame you can reconnect it to the metal inner frame it stretches the spring a little more but it will never snap again ive done this loads of times with no probs otherwise you will have to replace the outer door to reinstate the broken hook.
I had the same prob...did as you told but Can't find the spring...
This worked, thanks. Not sure whether the spring will snap under increased tension, think it should be OK.
Great advice, worked a treat for me. The small piece of plastic that the spring hooks had snapped, I glued that with araldite and all is fine. Thank you.
Hello, This page started my search as my Model developed the same symptoms. There is a great Youtube video show how to remove the door frame.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIdT4kS3... I did that and indeed found the spring hanging loose. The Plastic hook was snapped from the body of the door also. I couldn't see how glue would be strong enough so here's what I did. 1, beneath the snapped hook there is a 'square' of door frame about 1cm x 1cm. I then fashioned a square wooden peg about 1.5cm long and the same dimensions wide as the 'square' recess. 2, Into this I drilled a very thin pilot hole. 3, I then used two pairs of needle-nose pliers to bend the end of a thin small nail over into an 'L' shaped. 4, Then tap this carefully into the pilot hole, it should be a snug fit. Be careful not to split wood. I used Pallet wood. N.B. Make sure you leave a tiny gap on the left hand side of the wooden peg, this is so the internal door frame can squeeze in again - IMPORTANT. 5, This was then inserted into the recess with the hook of the nail facing down. 6, reattach the spring and push back into place the doorframe. Hey presto, it worked and will probably be better than the original plastic hook for sure! Cheers All.
Hi - Thanks for the good advice - It was easy to take door apart - I attached the spring to the inner metal frame with a cable binder - super easy. But it is really a silly construction - looks like "sollbruchstelle" (german for piece designed to break)

My top tab broke whiich guides the latch up and down. what a stupid design. plastic will degrade over time. i macguyvered a solution fixing the broken tab to the latch and holding in place with elastic bands around the guide post. now the plastic tab slides up and down against the door frame, rather than the post sliding through the tab when it was attached to the door frame. just a flimsy design. but thanks to the solutions posted i figured out how to get in there.
If the microwave door won't open the open lever might be broken. This part can be replaced separately.

If the microwave door won't open the door spring may have broken. The door spring is located inside the door and keeps downward pressure on the door hook.

If the microwave door won't open the door latch might be broken. The door latch is inside the microwave. The door hook, which is part of the door, engages with the latch to keep the door closed during operation. If the door latch or actuator breaks the door may not open.

If the microwave door won't open the door hook might not be releasing properly. The door hook is installed inside the door and normally releases when the door is opened. The hook is made of plastic and will break over time. When this happens it will need to be replaced, it can't be repaired.

If the microwave door won't open the handle actuator might be broken. This is a plastic part which can become brittle over time. This part is connected between the door button and the door latch assembly.
