SOURCE: my milwaukee 5316 rotary hammer drill wont

Could be a couple things, do you have the selector in the rotation mode, also there is an internal clutch that might have broken or the splines on the spindle might be rounded. If it is the clutch you would have to take it in for repair, it is extremely tricky to work on. Take the bit out (make sure you are using the right bits for this tool) and look at the splines to check their condition. Let me know if I can help more

SOURCE: rotary hammer won't rotate, hammers very good

If tool hammers brushes still good. Motor runs hammer action.
Take hammer/ drill switch lever off by removing small plastic plug in center with small screw driver.remove indicator handle off by removing #8 torx screw and lightly pry off. There is a pin and spring that lock tool into hammer or drill.Check for broken spring or binding spring and pin.If binding , clean and grease.

SOURCE: Bosch rotary hammer (model # 11230EVS) drill will not rotate

There is a clutch in the main spur wheel of the unit. These sometime begin to slip, on rare occasions they will slip to the point where the drill will not rotate. If you are interested the part number for this clutch is 1617000817.

SOURCE: Makita HP1640 hammer drill dual mode - 2 hours

Exchanged Makita HP1640 hammer drill for a new one. The 2nd drill did the same thing in under an hour!! Will return for refund. Instructions say the Forward/Reverse switch must be in a full up or down position for the Hammer/Rotary switch to move; well, it is and the Hammer/Rotary switch still stops at a 1/2 way point between modes. Although I can still use the drill, instruction warnings say not to because it may potentially burn out the motor. I'll have to go with a different brand this 3rd time around. It seems to be a design flaw.

My hilti te 805 runs but no hammer action

According to the operating instructions for the Hilti TE 6-A22, if the rotary hammer is running but there is no hammering action, it could be because the rotary hammer is too cold. To fix this, bring the tip of the drill bit into contact with the working surface, switch the rotary hammer on and allow it to run. If necessary, repeat the procedure until the hammering mechanism begins to operate. Also, ensure that the function selector switch is set to "Drilling without hammering" .

If this doesn't work, you may need to take your tool to a professional repair service. You can find a list of authorized Hilti service centers on their website.

I have the chance of a cheap D25303K dewalt 230 volt drill. does it have a chisel rotation stop (percussion only) feature ?

Go to the Dewalt service website at http://servicenet.dewalt.com, put the model number in the parts search box and you'll be able to view or download the parts breakdown and owner's manual. By the manual that model does have three modes; a hammer only, drill only and hammer/drill.

Bosch 11247 rotary hammer will not hammer

SAME ISSUE *****SOLVED*****

You were on the right track but needed to go farther with top description without disassembly!!

I have a barely used Hammer drill also that will rotate and run motor but does not hammer in any position.

Grease is the issue.....

Heat and sitting causes the grease to weep out & even a small amount of dust binds up the hammer drill.

******SOLUTION*****

GREASE, GREASE & MORE GREASE....

REMOVE BIT....SQUIRT IN ALOT OF THE BOSCH GREASE HOLD LOCKING CHUCK OPEN. INSERT A SPLINED BIT INTO THE HOLE AND PLUNGE GREASE IN SLOWLY SEVERAL TIMES. REMOVE BIT & REFILL GREASE & REPEAT.....VOILA.....HAMMER WORKING AGAIN....

BE SURE TO USE LOTS OF GREASE & DUST COVERS ON Bosch HD WHEN WORKING. WE ALL ERROR AND FAIL TO MAINTAIN FROM TIME TO TIME!

Rotary hammer 11245EVS - Rotates but does not hammer. Thank you. Glen

The motor in these rotary hammers drives two systems in the gun, one to rotate the bit and another that produces the hammering action. The hammer system is mainly a piston driven by a plastic connecting rod on an eccentric cog. The 'usual' failure is the plastic connecting rod but could be any of the gear pins or teeth. It is also possible the striker is stuck in the hammer pipe if the gun wasn't lubricated properly. There are over two hundred parts inside one of these tools so if you're not familiar with repairing one I highly suggest finding a repair shop that works on them. They are good tools and usually worth repairing unless a lot of major parts broke inside.

Do all sds drills have chisel function?

The SDS designation relates more to the type of chuck on the tool for the bits than to the tool/drill itself. There are both chisels and drill bits with SDS-Plus and SDS-Max shanks, SDS-Max being the the larger of the two. As far as the tools go: Demolition hammers will only hammer and can only use pointed chisels, scaling chisels, scrapers, etc, not anything like a drill bit that requires spinning to work. Rotary hammers can hammer and rotate the bits. Rotary hammers have a selector switch with two or three positions; one for hammer only for the above demolition bits, one for rotary hammer for use with carbite tipped drill bits, and some have a position for rotation only. The rotary hammer is a more versitile tool but more expensive because of extra workings inside.

Drill will rotate but will not hammer under load

most of these types of tools have a manual switch it will be located on the body of the drill just behind the chuck on top or bottom or oposit the grip handle. some models have 2 switches.you want to make sure the switch points to the picture that shows a hammer and drill together.also rember it needs to have down pressure for the hammer part to activate.

Hammer drills and rotary hammers comparison

Basically yes. Lower power units are usually titled as "hammer drills." Higher power units, usually labeled "rotary hammers," tend to be larger and provide bigger impact forces. But there are a few differences that are worth knowing: The rotary hammer usually have a chisel only feature, for light chiseling and masonry removal. Rotary hammers also have specially designed chucks that only accept bits specifically designed to fit their chuck. The special chuck on a rotary hammer helps hold the drill bit and prevents it from slipping during use.
