I need to scan from my MFP to my macbook pro. I am connected to the in-houe network router via CAT5. The printer is connected to the router via CAT5. The printer does not see my macbook pro. The macbook prints to the printer, but does not recognize the presence of the scanner capability.
This site shows that as of October 2017, the 4345mfp doesn't have software available to scan from the printer. You would think that a file physically sent to a Mac from the device should be seen, but apparently that isn't the case.

"You can share your USB connected scanner with other Macs on your home network." So you might go that route; connect to the Mac and share the printer to other devices.

SOURCE: Does HP LJ 3055 printer scan over the wireless network?
Scan over wireless network is not supported with this printer. You can try set it up and get scanner to work with usb and then change port from usb to HP standard TCP/IP for the device, but I don't think it will work.

SOURCE: HOW TO SCAN FROM SCAN TO BUTTON IN THE NETWORK FROM HP 2727MFP
You need to install the HP Scan software on each and every PC the MFP should scan to. In this software, you can create targets for the "Scan To" button. But: This is only useful when scanning with the ADF, because when scanning from the flatbed, you'd need for every page to hit the "Scan To"-button, press "Scan", wait for about a minute or two until the MFP has found the appropriate PC, and wait for the scan. So network scanning is unfortunately very limited with this machine.

turn on the printer sharing via the system preference panel on the computer that is on the system via usb.
Then on your wifi computer look for shared printers and you'll see your printer in the list under the host computer name... use that setting and it should fire up for you!
let me know how it goes...
