HOW ON EARTH DO I HOOK UP MY SDAT 8' POWERED SUBWOOFER TO MY HTR-5740 RECIEVER????
You need a long enough subwoofer cable ( Male connectors on each end ) and connect it to the female RCA input on the sub and the rear of your receiver has an output labeled subwoofer out connect the other end of the cable there and you are good to go. Make sure both the receiver and the subwoofer are powered off when making the connections.

as long as there is a speaker out from the receiver you should be ok just make sure polarity for spkr is right --remember you workng with AC current bad wire will cause fire==

You can use a hi-level to low-level adapter. Just remember, the Yamaha does not send power (wattage) to the sub, just signal. You need to use a subwoofer that has an amplifier either externally or built in.

If by headset you are referring to an wired headphones and microphone set then just plug the headphones in the headphones jack - you will need an adaptor like

and the microphone in one of the Audio inputs using this adaptor

If you want to be heard over another audio source then just buy 2 of these
