Whirlpool Duet Washer Model WFW9400SZ00 bangs only during spin cycle.

The washer operates normally during wash cycles. When the spin cycle starts it sounds like the inner drum is banging on the inside of the outer drum. I have checked the springs (top) and shocks (bottom) and they appear okay. I ran the Drain/Spin cycle with the back panel off to verify outer drum is not problem. Are there bearings between the two drums that could be causing the problem?

Yes you are exactly right, these bearings have failed & are causing the noise very common problem with whirlpool front loaders. very expensive to repair worth while looking into replacing instead of repairing as it will just happen again. The new LG machines are the best in my opinion.

It is the bearing and block, like the man said. 9 out of 10 do - it - yourselfers CANNOT successfully repair this.

SOURCE: whirlpool duet washer, inner stainless drum rubs

This sounds like a worn bearing housing or the bearing itself has packed up,either way you would have to strip and check these and replace what is broken

SOURCE: the drum bangs on the spin

Two possibles for this are aloose balance block or cracked drum spider. The front block is most prone to coming loose.
To check spider rotate drum little by little and pull towards you to check for movement.
Post back if further help needed.
Thankyou

SOURCE: Front Loader Model #FWT449G5S00 banging

The bearings on the drum may be going bad or the counter weight may be broken off or missing or heavy unbalanced loads. Reach inside and try lifting up on the interior drum. If it moves up and down or you feel any popping I would say the bearings are going bad. They usually make a lot more noise on the spin cycle also. Similar to an airplane taking off.
Hope this helps.

It appears your vibration damper or drum roller has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.

Whirpool duet model#WFW9300VU02Why doeswasher clangs and bangs in the spin cycle

the spider gear is broken,it would be cheaper to replace the washer than have it repaired, you either overloaded the washer or used to much detergent, you should only use two tablespoons of h.e. detergent in a front load washer or you did both,if you look at the back wall it looks like a peace sign, that's where the gear is

Loud banging noise during rinse

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the rinse or spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. This will solve your problem.

Thumping sound when the water turns on or off? during a normal cold cycle, we especially hear it during the spin cycle. It's not the spinning action it's the water turning on or off that makes a pretty...

Sounds like you are experiencing "water hammering". When the water valve shuts off quickly, the water which was flowing in the pipe must stop, and the momentum of the water suddenly stopping can cause the pipes to rattle or bang. Adding an air chamber would cusion that, and eliminate the banging. I have seen some (at a local Home Depot) which can screw onto the hose right where it connects to the hosehold shut off valve behind the washer.
