Thumping sound (like a heartbeat) through speaker (no picutre comes on)-Toshiba TW40X81

I bought this TV brand new in 2000. It worked with no problem for eight years until a few weeks ago. Now when you press the Power Switch (button) to turn on the set, all you hear is a thumping sound (like a heart beat) through the speaker, and no picture comes on. At first, I thought it was the circuit board connected to the power switch that was broken. So I ordered a new circuit board. I connected it, and it did not solve the problem. The thumping noise still occurs, and still no picture. Please help! What could the problem be?

This may be a "ISL9860" chip on your T-con board - I saw a nice youtube video by norcal715 you can do a web search for "norcal715 samsung" & a few from him will pop up. The one I watched was at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2jzLn5QEos
You might contact him through his youtube video.

I also found a repair kit but not for your problem:http://www.tvrepairkits.com/xcart/tw40x8... but perhaps they know of your problem and have a fix.

Possible problems: * The TV set may be unplugged. * A fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or switched off. * The remote control unit (RCU) may be disabled. Solutions: * Make sure the TV/VCR are plugged in and the wall switch is on. * Check the fuse or circuit breaker. Test the outlet with a lamp. * Replace the RCU's batteries: if this fails exchange the unit.

it could be, that would be the first thing i would do to rule out I would first check for loose connections on the board.

If the relay clicks you most likely have a leaky diode or bad transistor in the stand by or start up circuit. There is a manual available for that model called. Toshiba Power Supply and Shutdown circuit Troubleshooter. Its available at the following link. It gives step by step instructions so you can figure out exactly whats wrong with your set. The site emails it too you after you place your order and they also provide free unlimited tech support so you will have a resource for help if you need it. I am one of their on line support techs. I highly reccomend that Manual to any one with a toshiba that will not power up. Here is the link.

I have the tvee soundbar with wireless sub and the soundbar works fine but my sub just makes a thumping sound like a heartbeat. i have tried moving it, switching frequency channels, different outlets with...

It is not latching on to the soundbar transmitter. Is the locked light on the device turning on.
Wireless devices are sometimes known to drift. Is the sub silent when the soundbar power is off ?. Even then if its making this sound, the subwoofer amplifier is oscillating at very low frequency. You will need professional help and needs to be repaired.

We have just got Toshiba projection tv tw40x81 from a friend and the colors are not sharp and pinky looking. Why is that? How to fix that?

That sounds like it could be a color wheel. The color wheel controls the color on your picture since the DMD chip only creates a gray scale picture. You'll need to do a little more trouble shooting. Color wheels can cost around $100. They can be replaced on your own, but it's kind of a pain to get to.
