Depending on your version of windows, I would trying starting in safe mode to see if the computer does boot. If it does, then you want to restart again, go to advanced boot options and select "start windows with last known good configuration." Access advanced boot options following the steps at this link. It can one of many problems.(did anyone open it,does l/p get hot, is battery charging) Plug in external screen how did the problem start need more information
i had a similar problem with my acer aspire 4315 (witch i got for free because of this problem :D ) and i just reinstalled vista then it worked just fine
try to plug in an external monitor to your acer and see if your able to see anything. If not, then you have to open the screen and clean/repair/replace the ribbon for your monitor.
