Washing machine does not drain out when cycle ended, water left in drum, there is a filter bottom front only opens slightly to release some water, should this be able to be taken out to clean it

Most washing machines are based on the same principles: there is an inner drum with holes around the entire drum walls, this is where you place your clothes. This drum sits inside of another drum that has a drain hole at the bottom of it that connects to a pump motor. When the machine is in spin cycle it uses centrifugal force to remove the water from the clothes and it escapes the interior drum via the holes and is captured by the drum with the drain in it. The pump motor has an impeller which may be made of plastic or metal which often fails resulting in the issue you have described. Depending on your make and model it may be possible to replace the impeller itself or you may have to replace the entire pump.While most are easy fixes they are labor consuming. Cleaning of the filter in front of the machine will be of little consequence to resolve the issue. I hope this assists you and thanks for using Fix Ya.
