Hello sir, my machine will only start when pumping primmer bulb or squirting fluid in the carburetor than stops. the fuel line has broken off, in most small carburetors this is a ongoing problem.old fuel will crystallize when left in tank for a long time.plugging up ports, fuel lines, small screen in carburetor.fuel lines will dissolve clogging carb.this is why it will run when the choke is on creating a vacuum to where there is fuel forced in the carb to rum, also the gas will evaporate leaving the oil behind clogging up carb.the thing to do is remove carb. and clean out, replacing gaskets or fuel line if necessary.use carb cleaner to clean out carb.make sure to make note where fuel line go.the fuel filter broke off of fuel line letting debris get in carb plugging it up.the muffler is known to clog up a lot on these machines where they want run. the compression should be 60 to 120 lbs any thing below 60 is junk. when adjusting the carb screws turn in all the way than turnout 1 1/4 turns turn in slow until machine runs also you need to check for spark by removing plug and grounding against engine to check spark, ok.a new spark plug would be a good ideal too , if you are going to make these repairs use new fuel line and filter, hope this helps, any comments welcome, thank you, !!

SOURCE: Installing new line on my string grass trimmer

Cut two separate pieces of string, about 7 ft. each.

Stick the end of the line in the hole on the inside of spool.

Wind clockwise onto spool, putting the line that is closest to the ground on first.

Once you have winded this piece on, lock the last 4 inches of line through the slits on spool.

Repeat process for second piece of line, locking the last 4 inches in slot opposite the other locked in piece.

Put the spool on the trimmer, feeding the end of lines through either hole on trimmer.

Before you push the spool all the way on, pull the strings out of the locked position.

SOURCE: Trimmer will only run in choke position

You have a few possibilities. Make sure you have good fresh gas in the tank. You're not getting enough gas, so choking helps get more gas than air, making it run better. Could be the carb diaphram (not very expensive if you replace yourself), when they get old they don't perform like they should. Could be the filter in the gas tank is bad, plugged. Also might be just an easy adjustment on the carb Low, and High speed screws. The choke has three positions, full choke, partial choke, and no choke, which means run position.

SOURCE: Homelite trimmer will not start.

Check your fuel filter if you have one, and also make sure you are using fresh fuel and oil mix...to the right mixture and not too much oil.
If the mower/weedeater is over a year old, then I recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
Sounds like you will need to clean the carburetor or replace your carburetor internal rubber parts like the diaphgram and O rings.
Be sure to use compressed air to blow out all the fuel and air passages.
Be careful when blowing out the passages, because there are sometimes small rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor or using starting fluid and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets, but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
Keep in mind that the float for the carburetor must be level when you go to reassemble the carburetor or follow the instrucitons you get with the carburetor kit.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, you will first need to lightly seat the jet screws.
But before you lightly seat the jet screws count the number of turns it takes to seat the jet screws from their original position.
Be sure to mark the turns down on a piece of paper.
That way when you put the jets back in, you know to lightly seat them first and then turn them back out to their orginal position before you started.

I have a Troy-Bilt XP grass trimmer...only run on full choke, I replaced the fuel filter because there was plugged.Still no help. I ordered a new carb and replaced it and still had the same problem.

When you installed the new carb did you adjust it for your engine? Idle control, idle mixture, fast misture? Running only with choke indicates that engine is not getting enough gas routinely via the main jet.

Gas Trimmer will not stay started

Many times with a gas mix, after sitting for a while, the mix separates and gums up the carb. Taking the carb off and soaking it overnight in a parts or carb cleaner and running carb cleaner through the tank and gas lines will cure this.

I own a Husqvarna 128LD. My trimmer works on full choke, half choke, and when in the run position...it runs...but when the trigger is on balls to the wall throttle, it goes dead. What is my next move?

The next step is to richen the fuel mixture on the H screw on the carb, there is a special tool required to turn the adjuster screws because they have a splinr rather than a screw driver slot, the tool is part np. 530035560 unscrew tthe H screw 1/4 turn anti clockwise.

Wont start what is spark plug gap whatelse bulb full, new, gas in it,lines hooked

These are bad about flooding with the least amount of trying to. I usually can get mine started by letting it sit for 5-10 min. push the bulb 3-4 times hold the trigger and push the choke on full with 3/4 speed set. Pull 1x. Don't worry usually it won't start on this setting, it really just helps get the choke and carb set. Put choke back 1/2 way and try to start, if so, gas the trigger a couple of times but not holding in down. If it don't start put the choke on full again and try to start without holding the trigger. It should start after this. Take the plug out replace the coil wire onto plug and pull the cord gently to see if you're getting spark at the plug. Holding the coil boot to prevent it giving a small jolt.

My homelite string trimmmer will not run when choke is run position. it will run, but not at full throtle, when choke is set between full choke and half-choke.

you've got a fuel system issue , most likely carb problem, if this a newer trimmer it will likely need the carburetor replaced or adjusted, also check for cracking fuel lines or signs of old fuel varnish in the tank

Ryobi 25cc grass timmer, cuts out when full throttle applied

Are you running a gas/oil mix? If you are try making sure you didnt add too much oil (will usually smoke) and will possibly stall. Your air fuel mixture may be off and need adjusting too.
