Water filter housing leak

Replaced water filter, now water leaks from the filter housing. This happens with the new filter, the old filter, and no filter at all. I tried putting teflon tape on the new filter, but it didn't help. Perhaps the filter housing is cracked? How hard or easy is replacing this?

My Estate (Whirlpool) filter housing started leaking suddenly while dispensing water. I removed & inspected the filter VERY closely (good lighting & magnifying glass), found no reason for leakage, then reinserted it a number of times. Nothing helped until I repalced the filter cartridge. In this case, a BRITA replacement cartridge worked fine.

Can the water filter housing be the cause of slow water when the filter is in place?

Even a new filter will reduce the flow some what. I think the pressure to the filter is low or restricted . that will cause a reduction in flow, no it should not leak, check on the seal.

My 2004 Kenmore leaks water at the water filter housing. I put a new filter in but when I wish to get water it overflows at thde top.

Fist issue, plumbers putty should not be used on any water connection for potable (drinking) water, use Teflon tale if you need to. If the leak is at the housing most likely the housing is bad, replace it.

My 1998 trailblazer has started leaking oil from filter area. what do I need to address first. engine was recently replaced.

Assume this is a 4.3-first, make sure the filter is on tight (it happens)-not knowing how bad the leak is, I would check to see if the oil pressure sender unit is there (that is usually close to where they locate them, and they do leak). If it seems to be coming from where the filter is spun onto the block, remove the filter and make sure the old gasket from the last filter did not get stuck onto the block, then the new filter got installed over top of it (it happens too). If these do not pan out, the oil filter adapter (housing that holds the oil filter) may need to be removed and the gasket replaced.

Water leak at rear of filter at hose connections. will old filter cause this to clog and force water out of the connection fittings at the clear plastic water lines

Hi,

it sounds like the filter housing could have a crack in it, but It could potentially be a leaking line. In the event the old filter where clogged to the extreme, you'd simply have little or no water flow, not enough pressure to cause a leak though. I've seen these housings damaged by customers forcing the filters in or out in ways never intended.

To check the lines are secure/not leaking...

**FIRST unplug the unit from the wall and turn off the water supply**

either go thru the front by removing the toe panel/kick plate grill, or go thru the back panel, you'll still need to remove the grill at the front though. the 2 screws securing the filter housing to the fridge are at the front behind that grill. (if your lines are long enough -they usually aren't- you can undo the screws and pull the housing out to work on it easier/unimpeded). remove the 2 lines to the filter housing carefully(when removing these you simply push the tab surrounding the line "in" or "down" and pull out the line) and inspect them at the ends where the "seat" in the fitting/"O" ring within the housing. with a razor blade or sharp utility knife, cut off a small amount to insure a clean fitting when re-installing the lines into the housing (simply push them in the way they came out, until they bottom out and you can't pull them back out). once that's done you can turn the water back on, plug the unit in, and check for leaks. Is it actually the lines, or the housing itself ?

I've seen this a few times. the complete housing can be replaced and it isn't that difficult. First verify it is leaking behind the filter at the housing, I could try and help further. the housing is # 2186443 if you need it.

hope that helps,

good luck

Water filter compartment leaking

If you have already replaced the filter and you can see the housing is still leaking, You have to replace the housing and water tank as an assembly (12956202). Make sure you verify it's the filter housing leaking, and not a fitting at the water valve which is right behind the plastic cover around and below the filter housing.

I was changing my filter in the ge filtration system, and it says to turn off the water and press the red button. Then it says to unscrew the filter take the old one out and clean the filtrstion system...

The red button is a pressure relieve valve. If the system is leaking from the valve, try pushing the valve up from the underside of the cap where the valve is located. If this does not work the housing needs to be replaced. You do not have to replace this with a name brand like GE. All you need to do is make sure the housing that you are purchasing is the same size.
