Kenmore 110.92588210 cuts off & on

Our Kenmore 110.92588210 top loading washing machine has suddenly developed a problem whereby the cycle cuts off and on while operating. We do not think it occurs at a specific point, but seems to occur at all times and all cycles. This starting and stopping issue recently developed and continues at this time, but the washer eventually completes it full cycle.

It will suddenly stop and after a few minutes, or many minutes, it will continue on, only to stop again many times. I do not know if this is a thermostatically controlled problem or what.

Any help is appreciated. I am pretty handy, but know nothing about washing machines.

The Machine does not know the lid is shut.... there is an arm connected to the lid... that arm runs just inside the the top cover and presses a button to signal the lid is down.. some where along the line the arm isnt pushing the button..take off the top cover and it should be an easy fix

Kenmore 110-91564100 Top Load Washer Problem
Sounds like my 91 Geo Merto LOL! Anywho when it washes the pump spins one way and water is basically thrown back into the tub, then when on spin it spins in the opposite direction and if there is a hose leak past the pump or the pump itself leaks it will come out of the drain system. As for the thump, check under the unit for anything that shouldnt be under there getting caught up in the mechanics. Let us know :-)
