Take a large adjustable wrench and grip the bump head (black plastic) at the same time use your other hand to hold the line spool (orange plastic) rotate the the wrench in a counter clockwise direction slowly and carefully to ensure you are not applying force in any other plane than parallel to the spool or you may damage the bump head threads just until it breaks free. Remove the rest of the way by hand. This happens to me from time to time. If you care you can put a small amount of graphite on the bumphead threads to allow it to come off with hand pressure.

SOURCE: Replacing the cutting head on Ryobi string trimmer.

There is a nut above the head, place a wrench on the nut then unscrew the head from the shaft, unless yours is different from mine this is how it works. I hope this helps.

Ryobi RY40002 String Trimmer motor runs slowly and rough

Question edited to add FULL make model (what it is).
Category moved from Washing Machines to Ryobi Trimmer.

Replace the spark plug. Strip and clean the carburetor. Replace the fuel with fresh. But hang on though, the RY40002 is electric and runs with a 40 volt battery, so no spark plug and carburetor! :>D Replace the battery, lubricate everything from the motor to the head. Check the motor with nothing attached to it. The carbon brushes may need replacing or its bearings need greasing.

Automatic line advance not advancing on Ryobi 18v trimmer

I have a Ryobi Model RY28040 straight shaft line trimmer. In my case I replaced the complete String Head Assembly that includes the String Head Housing, Spring, and Spool and the string still did not advance. I then discovered that the bolt in the Spool Retainer cap (the red cap that attaches the spool to the shaft) was fused and not moving. The bolt needs to be loose inside the cap in order to allow the spool to move in and out by the spring. I loosened the bolt and fastened the spool back onto the shaft. Fired it up and bumped it a few times and the line began to advance. Turns out I probably only needed to replace the Spool Retainer rather than the String Head Assembly.

HOW DO I INSTALL A NEW STRING IN A PRO CUT 11 for Ryobi RLT30CD trimmer

LINE REPLACEMENT (Fig. 8) (For Reel EasyTM Head) Use 2.4mm monofilament string. Use original manufacturer's replacement string for best performance. n Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire. n Cut one piece of string approximately 7.6m in length. n Rotate knob on string head until line on knob aligns with arrows on top of string head. n Insert one end of string into eyelet located on the side of the string head and push until string comes out through eyelet on the other side. Continue to push string through the string head until the middle section of the string is inside the string head and string outside the string head is evenly divided on each side. n Rotate the knob counterclockwise on the string head to wind the string. Wind the string until approximately 20cm remains protruding from the string head. INSTALLING STRING IN PRO CUT II STRING HEAD Use monofilament string between 2.4 mm and 2.7 mm diameter. Use original manufacturer's replacement string for best performance. n Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire. n Gather two of the pre-cut lengths of trimmer line provided or cut two pieces of trimmer line, in 28 cm lengths. n Insert the strings into the slots located on the sides of the string head. String should be pushed in until approximately 2 cm protrudes from the holes on the top of the string head. n Remove old string by pulling it from the holes located on the top of the string head. http://www.screwfix.com/sfd/i/cat/pdfs/89/p4763889.pdf

The electric motor on my Ryobi 137r string trimmer is vibrating, rattling, and has lost power. It sounds and feels like worn out (binding?) motor bearings. Are they available as a replacement part? What...

You likely are spot on with the diagnosis of bearings. But, I would hesitate to say that they are replaceable. Contact a local electric motor shop (alternator, starter, etc) to see if they would be able to change the bearings, and perhaps the bushings as well.

Require Manual for Ryobi PTL 2543 25cc line trimmer

Or sometimes you unscrew a retaining bolt set into a plastic "lug", the spool drops out, refill t with line, replace it putting line through holes in the spool casing, refit the "lug" and tighten it again. I think I have the manual for this though and if so maybe I can send you a link to images on MSN Homepage to help you..
