Fisher Price Nature's Touch Cradle Swing - Not Swinging

I'm trying to figure out if I should invest in yet another package of four D batteries or finally toss this swing. The mobile and sounds work, but the swing does not. I have noticed in the past that sometimes this would have something to do with where I set the swing and how far apart the legs were (a mm seemed to sometimes make the difference). Once all it took was changing the batteries and the swing lasted for weeks before I needed to replace them, but now I've replaced them twice and the swing still isn't really working. Is there anything else I can try?

The swing was purchased in early 2006 ( for my first son) so it is no longer under warranty.

I too have the same exact issues with my swing, also purchased in 2006. Please let me know if you find a solution.

  • Anonymous Oct 27, 2008

Ditto, same problem. I took the housing off and the part that moves the swing doesn't seem to be getting any power. It would be easy to swap the part if FP actually sold just that part, but, they only have external parts no internal parts for sale.

  • dgilbert70 Dec 04, 2008

The motor in the swing stalls and will not move back and forth to swing baby.

  • Anonymous Dec 07, 2008

hey i was wondering if anyone knows where to get the straps to strap the baby in. mine got used so much with the first and then I lost the straps and now have second baby and def. need the straps..she is a wiggle worm...thanks jennifer

  • c_arsen Dec 14, 2008

    Stupid question..

Does the motor housing actual contain the motor? Or is it just the casing part as the term 'housing' seems to suggest?

    Thanks!

  • Anonymous Dec 19, 2008

I have the same problem. I opened up the top and the metal spring was in the right side of the rotor. I can put it back into the right on the left of the little rotating thing that is on the motor and the spring goes back and forth, but when I put the round plastic part over it that makes the swing rock, the motor turns off. Its like the spring jams it. I'm not sure if the spring goes on the right or the left of the little rotor. I have worked on this several hours and can't figure it out. Can someone help me?

  • Anonymous Dec 28, 2008

Hooked up the motor to a battery works fine. Seems to be in the switch board. 2006 D-LR20 Product # G2609 0396SQ Will not swing sometimes if you flip it on and off several times it starts to swing.

  • alatta74 Jan 03, 2009

Purchased swing in Spring '06 for first son, and it no longer works now that I've had my 2nd son.  Mobile, music work fine, but the swing barely moves.  Have gone through a few packages of batteries to make sure it wasn't that.

I don't want to invest in another swing, but I have a newborn and know I will get at least a few months out of it.

  • meturner5 Jan 04, 2009

I just changed the batteries yesterday, and have only used the swing twice for a total of about 45 minutes and it barely moves at half power.

  • celeron450 Jan 30, 2009

The motor at first worked intermittently, then not at all. Following GooberPyle's solution, I replaced the motor with one from a Lysol Fresh-Matic air freshener. It took a couple of hours in all, but it's working as well as ever! You'll need a soldering iron and solder to disconnect the old motor and attach the replacement. There is a small circle near one of the terminals on the motor, I used that to keep track of which wire should go where (though I'm not sure it matters). There was a resistor and capacitor connected to the motor in parallel to the power wires that I expect needed to be moved to the new motor as well.

The original motor was a Mabuchi RF-500TB-18280 DC motor. The new motor was unmarked except for the words "ACTION MOTOR" molded into the green plastic base.

i cant even always get the music to work. But like it was previously posted, every once in a while I move the legs a certain way or bump the batrey pannel on the back and it'll go for a while. i loved the swing for our first, and really want to be able to use it for #2 and any that follow.

can any one please tell me the rating of the motor used in nature touch swing? I cant make out the rating. If i have the rating i can as well purchase the motor directly and use it.

is there any way a higher rating motor can be used?

I purchased the natures cradle swing at a garage sale, when I opened the battery compartment to find the previous owner left the batteries in and it was badly corroded ..do you know if the plastic battery compartment is available, hold 4 " D " batteries.

Thank you for posting this information. Electric baby swings that work are hard to come by. I had one and it barely moved. Do you know where I can find information on where to get one that works? Thank you for your help!

I have the motor solution for all you nice people in desperate need of rocking your baby's world.......... an identical motor replacement can be easily obtained from an Air Wick or Lysol Brand "Fresh Matic" room deodorizer. These deodorizers use a 6 oz. refill and the motor inside the mechanism actuates the plunger to spray the can. THIS MOTOR IS IDENTICAL TO THE FISHER PRICE MOTOR in the Aquarium Swing Model and may be the same in other models too.
Cheap fix for those who only need the swing motor!
Happy Swinging!!!

Can't thank you enough. I found this post and even had an old AirWick air freshener in the house that was not being used anymore. This saved me $150 of getting a new swing (we could not wait 7 -10 days for a replacement top unit to get here from FP). Thanks again!

  • Anonymous Oct 14, 2011

I've replaced the motor but it still doesn't swing. How can I fix it? It is an older model of the Ocean Wonders. How can I trouble shoot it??

  • Anonymous Jan 14, 2012

Goober, I made the swap but I forgot to include the capacitor. The swing is not swinging. The motor is running but it's not moving the swing much at all.

Could the missing capacitor be the issue?

  • Anonymous Jan 15, 2012

The capacitor should help out with the torque.... if you have a heavy baby then don't leave it out!

  • Anonymous Oct 09, 2012

hey mate, i tried to switch the motor 2 times but the motor is still really weak it doesn't have enough power to move the swing, could it be the capacitor, and btw does it matter how you wire the diode?(which direction?) thanks

  • Travis Lind Thornton Dec 06, 2012

I really can't believe this works! I was not sure if there was a specific year, make or model of Air Wick Freshmatic to buy. So, I just found one that looked right on Amazon and it worked. Just make sure it mentions around 6 oz. bottle size. The one I ordered looks different than the one I received, but it still works. Here is what I ordered:http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009ABUSRU/re... Also, the wiring was correct. GREEN-BLUE and YELLOW-WHITE. Only needed a screwdriver and a way to connect the wires. Thank you for the clever solution!

Write up of how to replace motor.

  • Anonymous Nov 13, 2012

hey I had an air wick air freshener laying around and wired it up exactly how you showed but still not enuf powr to make swing work. How ever, I had a universal AC adapter laying around and hooked it up to where the batteries would go and it powers everything except for the motor. Now if I bump the voltage up from 6 to 7.5 the motor runs but the adjustable speed wont work and swing wont turn off unless I unplug it. I thought at first it might be the switch so I reversed the way the wires are plugged into the board and i can speed up and slow down the mobile with the speed dial.

I had the same problem and we took the motor out of an airwick freshmatic (it sprays air-freshener every 9,18 or 36 minutes). It is the same! We made sure to have the wires in the same place as on the swings motor and it works! Definitely a lot cheaper and easy to get.

I had the same problem with my swing. Everything worked except for the swing itself. I bought my swing used so to spend $50 on parts for a swing I paid $70 for seemed kinda senseless. I decided to open up the swing and take a look. After about 20 minutes of studying the guts I noticed there was a strong steel spring floating around loosely on the inside of the swing. This spring attaches from the motor to the pivot with the straight end of the spring pointing down. This was an easy fix and now my swing works like the day I got it. The spring must have come loose when I was transporting the swing. I suggest using care when transporting your swing to avoid this problem.

I called fisher price service center at 1800-432-5437 and they 're sending us a new motor housing. When you call have the produc t# and the date code which are on the motor housing opposite side of the battery compartment. If your swing is under warranty, it is free. If your swing is older than a year, the price of the housing is $45.820 NOT including shipping (~$8.50). The housing is from a 2007 model; mine is a 2006 model so it will be different than what I currently have. They are NOT making these anymore, so, when they run out that's it for the swings. Good luck.

I had the same problem and i just figured that my batteries simpley were not strong enough to power all the parts on the swing.so i went to www.instructables.com and searched 'convert a baby swing from batteries to ac (wall) power' to see if i can do it that way.it says to use a 5v power codr but i upped it a bit to a 7v and now my swing works wonderfully.

The ($6) air freshener worked for me too! I installed it today and so far it's working great. And I can still manually use the air freshener and it came with 2 new AA batteries, so I think it turned out to be worth the effort. I took the one resistor (?) off the old motor and put it on the new one, but used the capacitor that was on the new motor. Yippee!

We are using the Natures Touch Cradle Swing for our second child, we purchased this in 2005, I just called Fisher Price, told them we are using iy for our second child and they sent out the complete motor housing , with a 90 day warranty for FREE!
And before I called I took the motor out of that lysol device (that was sitting unused) then decided to call and find out the cost for myself, Glad I did, Free is always great!

i have an ocean wanders swing that didn't swing. i replaced the motor with one from an air wick, but the size wasn't the same so i need to cut some plastic and use some rubber and glue to keep the new motor in place. also when the old motor died, the transistor 8550D (labeled Q2) also died. i replaced it too. now the swing works like a charm. BTW, the motor is 3v.

  • Anonymous Oct 26, 2010

If you call Fisher Price and tell them you are using it for a new (second) child, they will send you the entire head motor and spinny things for free, all you do is attach the legs from the old unit and off you go, I got my part in about 7-10 days and you get a 90 day warrantee, they'll even ask if you have any other FP items you needs parts for, beats the heck out of playing with little motors

  • killerbees Oct 26, 2010

yes, you can call them. but some people said they were charged for replacement parts. plus, i don't think they send to romania.

I also tried the air wick motor. The motor was the same size/rating, but the original motor was better - so I put it back.

I believe my real problem was that the grease that was applied to the worm gear had migrated to the bottom of the housing due to gravity. I reapplied to the top and the original motor works fine.

GooberPyle, you are a genius. Took the freshmatic motor and replaced as suggested. My used $50 swing is running as good as new. I just wonder how you ever figured out that the freshmatic had the same motor? Many thanks to you and this site.

I was given the Nature's Touch Cradle Swing in 2004 for a shower gift. I used it for my twins and it worked wonderfully. It lasted two months with my new baby then the motor died. The mobile and music were working though. I went and purchased the Fresh O'matic and my swing is now working better than ever. Thank you so much for posting this! My baby can now be rocked to sleep again.

Thanks to gooberpyle and the freshmatic motor my nature's touch cradle swing works perfectly. A new motor would have cost me $75 plus postage. Just went down to the local supermarket. $10 spent and 1 hour later and the swing was as good as new.

Has anybody had the opposite problem? Our motor is running full speed and won't turn off. The motor makes the spring cycle so quickly that is doesn't have time to swing.

It says something about that on the instructables link comments. Probably indicates a reverse in the polarity of the wiring.

I have the same swing, but my problem is the broken spring that connects the motor to the actual swing. It's the black metal piece.. Any suggestions..

After reading this I called the support number too and they are sending me another whole motor part for less than $40. I leant my swing to an irresponsible brother who stored it for 2 years with batteries in the compartment and the battery connectors erroded away. Thanks for the help and call Fisher Price they will help you get it fixed.

How to change battery in fisher price my little lamb bassinet

Sometimes your little one likes being held over your shoulder. Sometimes on your knee. Other times, she wants to be cradled in your arms as you rock her side-to-side or back-and-forth. But for the times you need to put baby down, here's a swing that cradles and swings, soothes and entertains her just the way she likes it! It surrounds her in plush, cozy fabrics and a canopy that cocoons her. The soothing continues with eight tunes and a side-to-side cradle motion, a lot like the way you rock her in your arms. When your little lamb is ready for play, the swinging changes to a back-and-forth motion (because babies love variety) and she's engaged with nature sound tracks and a mobile featuring a mirror, floating clouds and little lambs to entertain her. Includes six soothing swing speeds, little plush friend tethered right to the removable tray, and bead bar. Sturdy steel frame has legs that fold in for storage and portability. Requires 4 D batteries. Weight Limit: 25 lbs. (11.3 kg) Developmental Guidelines: Use cradle swing from birth until a child becomes active and can climb out of the seat. Better for Baby... Soothes Soothing music and alternate swinging motions help calm baby and promotes a sense of security. Plush fabrics enhance baby's sense of security by providing comfort. Seeing baby's own image in the mirror encourages self-recognition, enhancing emotional development. Engages Seeing baby's own reflection and other objects in mirrored globe stimulates baby's visual sense. Rich fabrics and textures stimulate baby's tactile sense. Watching and anticipating motion of lambs and clouds fosters visual tracking skills. Listening to nature sounds as well as musical selections strengthens auditory skills. Better for Mom... Choice of three positions in one swing-variety for baby and convenience when you want baby facing you! Easy to convert from one position to another. Folds for storage and portability.
