I have run a chainsaw professionaly for many years and this is the first time I have had this problem. I know that the chain on a chainsaw will loosen up when it gets warm but the one on my saw gets tighter and tighter untill the engine will not spin the chain. I start by adjusting the chain properly before running the saw. after using the saw for about five minutes it acts like it is loosing power. I shut it off and check chain tension and it is too tight. I loosen it back to the correct tension and run it about another five minutes and then same thing. I am stumped. Good chain, Good tensioner, Good bar, Chainsaw is not equipped with a chain brake. some one please help me figure this out.

Make sure the chain is not over tightened. When adjusting the tightness, ensure there is at least 1/8" of looseness by pulling up on the chain in the middle of the bar and releasing it. If a chain becomes overheated because of leaning on the saw when the chain is dull, or lack of oil on the chain, it may expand in the track and not turn freely.

How to adjust a poulon pro chain saw 46cc 20" chain tighting

First, I'd read the manual if in doubt. No matter the type of adjuster, tool-less or not, you loosen the bar nuts, tighten the adjuster until the chain just touches the bar on the bottom (while holding the bar nose up) then tighten the bar nuts. Chain should move easily.
Re Poulan chain tightening. Be sure it's oiled and sharp, of course.

Chain wont tighten Large Knob will not turn.

Try loosening the nuts that hold the cover to the blade slightly. This will allow the chain tensioner to move to the proper tension. Then retighten the nuts to their original tightness.

I can't keep the chain tight on the chainsaw

After adjusting make sure to tighten the bar bolts(nuts). If they're missing, replace them and tighten securely after adjusting the chain tension.

Chain is extremely loose and turning the screw to tighen does not fix the problem

You need to loosen the cover fasteners before the adjuster will do anything. Turn the adjuster CW to tighten the chain--bring the chain up to the bar, but not so tight that you can't move the chain by hand. Recheck the tension after tightening the cover fasteners. Hope this helps!

I have an 18'' Poulan chain saw that won't start.

Take the wire of the spark plug, and see if it shocks you when the cord is pulled. If not there may be something wrong with your coil.(loose wire for example)If it does shock you,you may want to check out your piston rings,or the little air/fuel mixture valve between your carburetor, and cylinder.

I am having a problem with the chain on my poulan chainsaw. the chain comes loose or comes off after just a few cuts. am i missing something or could it be a malfunction

It sounds like the chain is not being set quite tight enough. Turn the tightening screw until the chain barely lifts above the bar when pulling on the middle of the chain.
