After market radio wires causes light issue with light switch
After hooking up after market radio, all lights except headlights are on with orange wire or black/yellow wire without having to use the headlight pull switch, if iether is hooked to red wire lights are on constent, if hooked up to yellow ACC lights work when key is turned, niether is good for battery and niether works with regular light switch. I have replced light switch still have problem, lights work so problem is not fuse, has to wiring, but which wire where. Radio works fine. orange and black/yellow wire seem to go no where yet they are critical to the function of the runner and dash lights, hooking the two together has no effect, they need a power sorce but not willing to use a toggle, they should work with headlight switch, please help
Re: after market radio wires causes light issue with...
Check your ground on the radio......... the feed from the lights will test as a ground and the radio will use this as a circuit and turn on the lights. been there done that what a nightmare

This is an after market radio so you might want to go back to square on and remove the radio. Put everything back and see if the issue is still there. If not you could have a bad radio that is cross circuit. .
the dash has a dimmer, this is dash park lights
and runs all radio back lights.
so if the dial is low, its dark
if the dash cluster glows good the dimmer is ok
and the wire to the radio called, dial
suzuki uses different colors.
turn on parks, with a voltmeter measure 12vdc at DIAL wire.
at radio.
0v bad, 12v good, if 12v then radio lamps are Blown out.

The headlight wiring and radio wiring is getting in contact and causing the short. Both the grounds needs to be checked.Because when headlight is off,the radio work's fine.As soon as the headlights are turned on,the radio goes in scan mode. Its clear indication of radio and headlight wiring issue. The wiring's are getting in contact with ant metal surface or both the radio and headlight wire are coming in contact, where they should not.I suggest you to check the headlight and radio wiring diagrams for your lincoln town car. Here is the direct link.Click the link below :---Check out all the 3 links one by one.Radio wiring diagram for 1997 LincolnTown Car?http://technoanswers.blogspot.in/2012/02/radio-wiring-diagram-for-1997-lincoln.html ----------------LincolnTown Car Radio stereo

You didn't say the year or the model or what country your in so I can't tell what kind of car you got except you got a BMW Theres a knob near the headlight switch that lets you turn the lights brightness of the cluster up and down. This switch can be turned all the way down and the bulbs will and can burn out and the fuse for panel illumation can fail and iff it did an aftermarket radio is most likly as peaple hook them up and use the dash illunination wire for a grond wire. Look the fuse panel over for blown fuses and if their all good ( you need a test light to do this as the fuses will only come hot witht the lights on and certain model years the key has to be on and the engine running) This dimmer switch should come hot with th lights on and it's just 3 wires Ground the light bulbs and the light wire from the headlight switch. the headilght switch can be bad but again I don't know what year the car is as some of the older mosels you turn the knob to brighten or dim the panel lights ( the fuse can be labled panel ) he ire should come hot when the lights are on ( and lit) If not and the fuses are good your either checking or changing the headlight switch. The cars that i've fixed all seemed to be burnt out bulbs and it depnds on the year and the model as to how you do this. American market cars used different bulbs and holders than european cars and Sough africa use still others.
