Take old cord off. Remove wire or ground strap connecting dyer frame to center (nutral) terminal. White wire goes to center terminal. Green wire to frame (ground) Red and Black wires go to two remaining terminal, order really won't matter.

Trying to replace a 3prong plug with a 4prong plug

Ok, so you currently have a three prong cord on your dryer? Your house has a 4 prong receptacle? Ok so now you've purchased a 4 prong dryer pigtail? Be sure cord is unplugged. Remove cover of junction in back of dryer. You will see three terminals. They should be labeled something like L1,L2,N . ON one terminal you well see a small ground strip This is currently connecting the neutral terminal to ground. On the new cord connect the outside two conductors to L1 +L2 connect the white conductor to the N terminal. Connect the green (ground) conductor to the frame where the copper bonding was. This seperates the neutral conductor from the equipement grounding conductor.

Swich 4 cord to 3 cord plug in

To switch from a 4 prong to a 3 prong. First remove 4 prong cord, save screws you will need them. Look a 3 prong, it will be flat with 3 wires next to each other with metal fittings on the ends. The 2 outside which are hot wires go to the outside screws on the block, and the center which is neutral goes in the center. The only difference in the cords is the 4 prong has a ground, in new construction this is code. You don't need a ground if house is wired for a 3 prong.

Four prong cord three prong outlet

Ok this is how you will wire the three prong to the dryer.

You have 2 wires that are gold/brass in color, those are the hot wires.
You have 1 wire that is crome/silver in color, that is the neutral

On back of fryer where you wire it you put the wires on like this right to left Gold/brass hot, silver/nuetral, then the other hot wire.

On back of dryer you will have screws from right to left this color gold/brass, silver/crome, then gold/brass again.

If you do have a 4 wire cord the extra wire is ground and you screw that to the machine body.

Wiring for three prong power supply cord

If you desire to convert an appliance from a 4-prong to a 3-prong, make sure you reconnect the bonding strap and/or ground wire to the Neutral (white) wire at the terminal block.

Picture shown is for a range cord but is exactly the same for a dryer connection.

Dryer cord

Your four prong cord has 4 wires. Black,Red,Green and White.
Remove the 3 prong cord from the dryer.
The Black and Red wires go to the outside terminals on the dryer. The White wire goes top the center terminal. The Green wire goes outside the terminal cover to any nearby screw for grounding.

Too many prongs on dryer power cord???

Do not just swap out the cord on the dryer. It has 4 prongs for a reason.

You will need to call a licensed electrician to change your outlet for the different service.

4 prong power cord to a 3 prong monunt I'm trying to replace a 3prong cord with a 4 prong but there is an extra wire, what do I do with it?

Dryers come with a wire or metal strap connecting the center "neutral" terminal to the frame of the dryer. When using a four wire power cord, take that wire or strap off the frame. (it can be discarded or better yet, in case this dryer needs to ever be converted back to a three wire cord) connect the frame end of the wire / strap to the center terminal of the power block. Now, Green (ground) wire goes to the dryer frame, White (neutral) goes to the center terminal, and the Red and Black (both "hot") wires go to either outside terminal. (one to each)
