Move the Grand Marquis's serpentine belt tensioner off the serpentine belt with the serpentine belt tool. Pull the belt of the remaining pulleys by hand. Take the belt out of the engine well. Wrap the new belt around the bottom portion of the crankshaft pulley.
Follow the belt routing diagram to route the belt over each remaining
pulley until only the tensioner remains. Move the Grand Marquis's serpentine belt tensioner aside once more and slip the belt onto the tensioner pulley.Hold the belt in place with one hand while you move the tensioner slowly back into position with the other. You don't mention which engine you have in your '92 Dakota, but it's likely the 3.3L and if so, here's the diagram. Even if your engine is not the 3.3L the principals for replacing the belt are the same.
Get a serpentine belt tension release tool (local parts store) and use it to take the tension wheel away from the belt, which will make it loose enough to remove by simply pulling it off one of the pulleys (the alternator will be easiest) and then wiggle it out of the engine bay. The tool should come with a selection of heads for the different variations of tensioner arms/bolts. Once the belt is removed, replacing it is the reverse process.
There should be a factory diagram at the front of the radiator top plate near the passenger side. That's where it is on mine, and it shows with and without AC. I hope that helps
What engine do you have? The 3.3 and 3.8 engines have a single serpentine belt, and a belt tensioner, so no adjustment is needed. Did you replace the tensioner, and want to know how much to torque it? countrycurt0
